Oilers vs. Jets NHL Betting Odds

It’s an unusually busy Monday around the NHL, but Oilers-Jets is the lone all-Canadian matchup. And I’ll be watching because we get to see the league’s dominant offensive force in Edmonton’s Connor McDavid trying to beat its top goalie in Winnipeg’s Connor Hellebuyck, a three-time Vezina Trophy winner. Although not having his best year.

We probably see these guys duel again in February’s Olympics from Italy with McDavid obviously the heart and soul of Team Canada and Hellebuyck the expected American goalie. He was in the 4 Nations Face-Off. If it’s not a Canada-USA gold medal game in the Games like it was in the 4 Nations, that’s a huge upset.

Monday is the second of three regular-season meetings with the Oilers returning to Winnipeg on Jan. 8. On Dec. 6 in Edmonton, the Oilers rolled 6-2 thanks to four first-period goals. Leon Draisaitl and Evan Bouchard each had a goal and an assist, and McDavid had two helpers. Hellebuyck was hurt then so Eric Comrie started. He allowed the four goals on 16 shots in the first period and was pulled.

The Oilers are 4-1 in their past five in Winnipeg.

Edmonton Oilers

The Oilers had a two-game winning streak snapped in a 3-2 loss in Calgary. Evan Bouchard (seventh of season) and Connor McDavid (24th) had the goals. Bouchard opened the scoring with his 21st career power-play goal – fourth most in Oilers history. Long way to go to catch leader and Hall of Famer Paul Coffey, who had 69 such goals. It was McDavid’s 30th career goal against the Flames, the first franchise he’s reached the mark against. He has 12 goals and 49 assists in in 36 career games vs. the Jets and enters on a 12-game points streak overall this season. Vancouver (70) and Calgary (66) are the only clubs he has more points against. With Tristan Jarry on IR, Connor Ingram (2-1-0, 2.35 GAA, .915 SV) has started three games in a row. It will be Calvin Pickard’s turn tonight, but he has struggled with a 3-5-2 mark, 3.93 GAA and .861 SV. The over is 4-2 in the Oilers’ past six vs. the Western Conference.

Winnipeg Jets

Really strange what is going on with the Jets considering pretty much everyone of note from last season’s very good team is back, yet the club is utterly flailing sitting near the bottom of the Central Division, on a five-game losing streak and not having won back-to-back games since Nov. 15 & 18. Winnipeg has been the victim of a bit of bad luck as all the losses in this stretch are by a goal and three in overtime. It was beaten 4-3 in OT at home by Minnesota on Saturday, blowing a 3-2 lead with 22 seconds left in regulation. The last time the Wild scored a later game-tying goal was Nov. 6, 2021. Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor had a goal and an assist each, and Josh Morrissey also scored for Winnipeg. It was Connor’s 13th multi-point game of the season, tied with the Golden Knights’ Jack Eichel for the second most by an American skater and behind only the Blue Jackets’ Zach Werenski (14). Connor Hellebuyck stopped 15 of 19 shots in losing his fourth in a row personally, his longest skid since the 2023-24 season. Morrissey (30 points, +9) was banged up Saturday and is in question. The over is 4-1 in the Jets’ past five at home.
