Rays vs. Braves Betting Odds, Picks: Atlanta looks for response after blowout loss

The Tampa Bay Rays and Atlanta Braves continue their three-game interleague series on Wednesday night in what could easily be viewed as a potential World Series preview.

Tampa Bay enters at 86-58 and leads the AL East, while Atlanta sits 85-60 atop the NL East. The Rays made the first statement Tuesday with a dominant 7-1 victory, powered in part by Junior Caminero’s 39th home run.

Atlanta will now try to answer at Truist Park, where the Braves are an excellent 48-25 this season. First pitch is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET on MLB Network.

Atlanta is a -125 favourite to win on the MLB odds, with the total set at 8.0.

MLB Betting Odds and Trends

Tampa Bay has been the hotter offence in September, ranking eighth with a .777 OPS compared to Atlanta’s .630 mark, which sits 27th.

Still, Atlanta’s profile improves significantly at home, where the Braves own a .750 OPS. The Braves also possess the stronger bullpen, carrying a 3.36 relief ERA compared to Tampa Bay’s 4.09 mark.

That late-game edge could become decisive if this stays close.

Tampa Bay Rays

Tampa Bay has been remarkably balanced offensively, batting .260 as a team while getting star-level production from Caminero.

The third baseman has 39 home runs and 92 RBIs, while Chandler Simpson adds speed and contact at the top of the lineup. The Rays also rank among MLB’s best with runners in scoring position, posting a .775 OPS in those situations.

Griffin Jax gets the start Wednesday. He owns a 3.82 ERA and 1.27 WHIP, though his results have become less consistent as his workload has increased.

Tampa Bay is also more dangerous early than late, posting a .748 OPS through the first six innings compared to .704 from the seventh onward.

Atlanta Braves

Atlanta turns to Reynaldo Lopez in his first MLB start since late July after recovering from a knee injury.

Lopez owns a 3.64 ERA and 1.34 WHIP across 71.2 innings, and his final Triple-A rehab outing offered encouraging signs. There is still obvious uncertainty after the long layoff, but Atlanta’s bullpen gives the Braves protection if his workload is limited.

Offensively, Ronald Acuna Jr. has opened September on a tear, while Matt Olson remains the lineup’s premier power threat with 37 home runs.

Atlanta has also been particularly strong late in games, carrying a .740 OPS from the seventh inning onward. That matches up well against Tampa Bay’s more vulnerable relief corps.

MLB Prediction: Who Will Win Rays vs. Braves?

Tampa Bay was clearly better Tuesday, but this feels like a good response spot for Atlanta.

The Rays have stronger recent offensive numbers, yet the Braves hold several situational advantages: home field, the better bullpen and a lineup that becomes more dangerous as games move into the later innings.

Jax has also shown some signs of wearing down after transitioning from the bullpen into a starting role.

I expect Acuna to stay productive, Olson to provide some power and Atlanta’s relief pitching to protect a narrow lead.
