What is a Scorigami?

A NFL scorigami – a portmanteau of score and origami – is a final score that’s never occurred before in the history of the NFL. It’s the brainchild of Jon Bois, a prominent American Football journalist, who devised the scorigami chart in 2016. The theory is that American Football’s points-scoring system results in unique scoring totals compared with other major league sports like hockey and baseball. Take a look at the interactive chart here.

Scorigami Chart Explained

NFL Scorigami chart updated October 2, 2022

To plot whether a new NFL final score has ever occurred before, you’ll need the score of the winning team and the score of the losing team. The score of the winning team runs along the top of the chart i.e. the horizontal axis. The score of the losing team is plotted along the right-hand side of the chart i.e. the vertical axis.

The bottom left corner of the graph is filled out in black because the losing team naturally cannot score more than the winning team. All the scorigami scores that have already happened in the history of the NFL are marked in colours. The least frequent scorelines are in blue and the most common scorelines are in bright red.
