Ottawa Senators vs. New York Rangers Prediction, NHL Odds
The Rangers maintained their narrow one-point lead over Carolina and Dallas in the race for the top of the overall NHL standings with Saturday’s 3-2 victory over the New York Islanders. But with the Hurricanes holding the edge on tiebreakers ahead of a date with bottom-feeding Columbus on Tuesday, the Rangers should be highly motivated to settle things on Monday night.
The Senators open a season-ending two-game road trip on Tuesday after getting past Montreal in Saturday’s 5-4 shootout win and will be gunning for their their sixth victory in seven visits to the Big Apple.
The Rangers lead the way as heavy -250 favourites on the Monday NHL odds and are a +105 puck line bet to win by two or more goals. The Senators trail as +200 underdogs and the total is pegged at 6.0 with -125 odds favouring the OVER.
Senators vs. Rangers NHL Betting Odds
Winners in 13 of their previous 16 outings, the Rangers have failed to close the deal on their bid to finish first overall while losing two of their past three games, and needed a shootout to earn their win over the Islanders on Saturday and maintain their slim lead over Carolina in the Metropolitan Division standings. After averaging 4.13 goals per game during their preceding 13-3-0 run, the Blueshirts have mustered just six total goals over their past three games.
Long eliminated from playoff contention, the Senators look to play spoiler on Monday while extending a steady run of success on the road. Losers in nine of their first 13 road games of the season, the Senators have steadily turned things around, going 11-9-2 since, and are 7-3-0 in their past 10 away from Canadian Tire Centre. However, that success has come by the narrowest of margins with four of their seven recent road wins coming in overtime or by shootout. However, the club has been increasingly stingy during their road resurgence, allowing just 15 total goals over their past seven outings.
Ottawa Senators
The Sens were forced to play catch-up in Saturday’s date with Montreal despite outshooting the Habs by a 44-25 margin. The club never led while spotting the Canadiens one-goal leads on four occasions and have seen each of their wins during their current 3-1-0 run come beyond regulation. Brady Tkachuk provided the spark on Saturday, scoring twice ad adding an assist, all on the power play. Tkachuk has also been red-hot on the road during the club’s resurgence, racking up eight goals and eight helpers over his past 12 away appearances and has scored three times in two previous dates with the Rangers this season. Tim Stutzle missed his fifth straight game on Saturday due to an upper body injury, and remains questionable to return on Monday night.
New York Rangers
Igor Shesterkin was the first goalie off the ice at New York’s morning skate on Monday, setting the stage for him to be in the crease against Ottawa. Shesterkin has produced mixed results in recent outings, posting wins in six of his past eight starts but has compiled a middling .899 save percentage over his past five appearances and has been lit up for eight total goals while going winless in his past two versus Ottawa. Artemi Panarin continues to be the key to success for the Rangers. Panarin scored once and potted the shootout winner in Saturday’s victory over the Islanders and has now recorded 10 goals and 14 assists during an impressive 12-game points streak.
