Week 1 around the NFL closes with an AFC West matchup Monday night as the rising Denver Broncos visit the somewhat-in-transition Chiefs. But with Patrick Mahomes expected to play off serious injury, Kansas City is -3 on the Week 1 NFL odds with a fairly low total of 43.5 points.

Broncos vs. Chiefs Kickoff Time, Weather, TV, Streaming Info

There used to be Monday night doubleheaders in Week 1 but not the case this year as Broncos-Chiefs stands alone with the typical 8:15 ET start and shown on ESPN and ABC. Canadian TV???? There are numerous streaming options in the USA with the main one via the ESPN app. Some possible weather concerns in Kansas City: Thunderstorms likely in the evening. Then a chance of scattered thunderstorms later on. Low 72F. Winds S at 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 70 per cent.

Monday Night Football Betting Odds, Point Spread, Trends

The AFC West could be such an interesting division this season after Kansas City’s streak of nine consecutive division titles ended last year in a shocking flop. Denver won the division for the first time since 2015 and has the most interesting young QB in the AFC West in third-year Bo Nix. I would argue every team could win the West other than the Las Vegas Raiders.

This Monday night opener features two likely future Hall of Fame head coaches in Kansas City’s Andy Reid (he’s going to the Hall for sure) and Denver’s Sean Payton (might need a bit more on the resume). They rank No. 1 and 2 among active head coaches in NFL regular-season wins.

While Kansas City had largely run roughshod over the AFC West for more than a decade, it has had trouble with Denver in losing four of the past five and swept last season in a pair of lower-scoring games. It was 20-13 in K.C. on Christmas on a late TD pass from Nix. The Chiefs were called for a crushing offsides penalty earlier on that drive. The under is 6-0 in the past six meetings.

NFL Player Odds and Props

Kansas City’s big offseason acquisition was Seattle running back Kenneth Walker, the MVP of Super Bowl 60, and I like him for an anytime touchdown at -120 even as good as Denver’s defence is. No doubt Walker should be the goal-line guy. Also like Denver’s Bo Nix under 1.5 TD passes at -180 as he only had one in those two games vs. Kansas City in 2025.

Denver Broncos

I believe Denver would have won the AFC title last season and maybe the Super Bowl had quarterback Bo Nix not suffered a fractured right ankle in the final moments of the Broncos’ thrilling 33-30 OT home win over Buffalo in the Divisional Round. The offence went completely quiet the next week with Jarrett Stidham under centre in a 10-7 home loss in the AFC title game to New England. Last season’s sweep of the Chiefs was Denver’s first since 2014 when Peyton Manning was the QB. Despite all the success, coach Sean Payton fired offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi and promoted QBs coach Davis Webb to that role. Denver was definitely good in 2025 but also crazy lucky with an NFL-record 12 comeback wins and an 11-2 record in one-score games after going 1-6 in those the year before. The Broncos are 5-0 ATS in their last five games as underdogs.

Kansas City Chiefs

This feels like such a swing season in Kansas City off last season’s disaster, which ended at 6-11 and on a six-game skid – the team didn’t lose more than six total games any of the previous 10 seasons. Patrick Mahomes is coming off major knee injuries for the first time in his career, and fellow future Hall of Famer in tight end Travis Kelce is likely playing his final NFL season. Coach Andy Reid is 68, so he won’t be around much longer. This will be the Chiefs’ first time ever hosting Denver in Week 1. Mahomes is 13-2 career vs. the Broncos, missing one of the two team defats in 2025. The addition of running back and reigning Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III can only help Mahomes as K.C. struggled to run last year. The Chiefs under Mahomes used to win close games all the time but were 1-9 in one-score games in 2025 after going 11-0 in such during the 2024 regular season. The over is 10-1 in the Chiefs’ last 11 games in Week 1, but I’m seeing another slugfest.
