Elks vs. Stampeders Prediction: CFL Week 14 Point Spread, Odds
The Elks enter the CFL Week 14 finale deadlocked with Saskatchewan atop the CFL West standings in the wake of the Roughriders 32-26 win over Winnipeg on Sunday, but maintain a game in hand over the defending Grey Cup champion, and ride a two-game win streak into Monday night’s action. The Stampeders enter September buried in last place in the CFL West after losing two of their past three contests, but remain just two points back of BC and Winnipeg in the hunt for third place in the division.
The Stampeders have climbed to slim 1.5-point home favourites on the CFL Week 14 odds. The Elks trail as strong +100 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 59.5.
CFL Week 14 Odds and Betting
Sunday night’s matchup is the first meeting of the season between thee long-time rivals, and the first of two scheduled dates between these squads in just six days. The Stamps took two of three from Edmonton last season including a 28-7 home victory on Labour Day. However, the Elks have maintained an overall edge, topping Calgary in five of seven head-to-head clashes including a trio of outright victories as betting dogs. Recent meetings have tended to be low scoring, with the UNDER paying out in totals betting in four straight, and the total topping 41 just once over that stretch. The Elks have emerged as a reliable bet during their march to the top of the standings, going 7-3 against the spread in their past 10 overall, and are 3-1 ATS in their past four as road dogs. The Stamps have seen the UNDER pay out in three straight, but have seen the total reach at least 56 twice during that stretch while scoring 28 points per game.
Edmonton Elks
The Elks return to action well rested after enjoying a bye last week in the wake of a narrow 22-19 win over Winnipeg that extends their current win streak to two games. The Elks needed to overcome a 16-6 halftime deficit in their victory over the Blue Bombers, and benefited from some timely defence that forced the Bombers to settle for field goals on four occasions, twice from beyond 50 yards. However, slow starts have become a concern, with Edmonton scoring just 11 total points in first-quarter action over the past four games. Zach Collaros turned in yet another effective but unspectacular performance, completing 20 of 32 passes for 232 yards and one TD. The Elks pivot has now tossed for multiple TDs just twice in his past six outings and in seven of 11 appearances overall. However, Justin Rankin showed signs of busting out after failing to reach 50 rushing yards in four of his previous five outings, running for 93 yards on a season-high 19 carries.
Calgary Stampeders
The Stampeders received some good new on Sunday, when quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. received clearance to return to action after missing last week’s loss to Hamilton due to a concussion. The news has had a speedy and significant impact on Monday’s betting line, lifting the Stamps from 1.5-point underdogs to 1.5-point chalk. However, Adams has some work to do to return to form after tossing for just two total scores against two picks over his past three appearances, and completing just 53.2% of pass attempts in his past two outings. Running back Dedrick Mills helped pick up the slack in Adams’ absence, running for 118 yards and one score versus the Ti-Cats, and has now topped 100 rushing yards four times this season. However, the Stampeders must find a way to shut down the Elks attack after surrendering almost 29 points per game in their past three contests.
