Argonauts vs. Tiger-Cats CFL Week 14 Odds, Picks: Toronto favoured by a field goal
The battle for second place in the CFL East standings heats up on Monday afternoon, as the Toronto Argonauts visit the arch-rival Hamilton Tiger-Cats in this season’s Labour Day Classic at Hamilton.
The Argos travel to Steeltown on the rebound from last week’s 28-24 loss in Saskatchewan, but maintain a two-point edge over the Ti-Cats with a game in hand in the wake of Hamilton’s 28-23 defeat in Calgary last weekend that marked the team’s fifth loss in six games.
The Argonauts have emerged as slender 3.5-point road favourites on the CFL Week 14 odds. The Tiger-Cats trail as +180 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 58.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
Monday afternoon’s matchup is the third and final regular season meeting between these teams this year. The home team emerged victorious in each of their first two dates this season, with the Ti-Cats eking out a narrow 24-23 win in July, and the Argos following up with a decisive 39-20 home victory two weeks ago.
Overall, the Tabbies have held the advantage in recent dates with their arch-rivals, claiming victory in six of their past eight tilts.
However, it is the Argos who have earned two points in two of their past three Labour Day dates with Hamilton.
With last week’s loss to the Roughriders, the Argos have now dropped two straight on the road, and now sports a 3-6-0 SU away record this season.
However, the Boatmen have produced at the sportsbook, covering in four of their past five outings, and in two straight as betting chalk.
Conversely, the Ti-Cats have fallen on hard times. In addition to losing five of their past six contests, including a trio of defeats by double-digit margins, Hamilton has covered in just three of its past nine outings, but is 3-2 ATS in its past five home games.
Toronto Argonauts
The Argonauts let a chance to strengthen their grasp on second place in the CFL East slip away last week in Regina. The Argos stormed out to 22-12 halftime lead, but faded after the break, mustering just two points in the second half on their way to a 28-24 win.
Quarterback Chad Kelly once again put up gaudy numbers, tossing for 416 yards and three first-half scores. Kelly has now connected for 3+ TDs five times this season, including each of the past two games.
However, accuracy still remains a concern, as the Argo pivot tossed a pair of interceptions to bring his season total to a league-high 17.
While receivers Damonte Coxie and Tyler Kahmann combined to rack up 261 receiving yards, the Toronto ground game stalled, generating just 16 total yards on just four carries.
Hamilton Tiger-Cats
With Tre Ford leading the way, the Tiger-Cats turned in a valiant effort last weekend in Calgary, erasing the Stampeders’ 16-13 halftime lead early in the third quarter before watching the Stamps claim the win on Dedrick Mills 49-run scoring run in the dying seconds.
The Ti-Cats have now blown second-half advantages three times in their past five games, and have averaged just 21.8 points per game during the 1-5-0 SU slide that has bounced them from the CFL playoff picture.
Tre Ford remained one of the positives for Hamilton. Ford has looked increasingly comfortable in the role of Ti-Cats starting pivot, tossing for 568 yards over the past two games while avoiding the pick.
Ford also emerged as Hamilton’s top rusher last weekend, galloping for 80 yards on six carries, and leads all CFL quarterbacks with 383 rushing yards this season.
