Betting Analysis s
This is the third and final regular season game between these two teams. The key word in that last sentence is regular, because there’s a good chance they will meet again in the post season. Through two games, these two teams have split the series, with both games played in Regina. In the last four games played in Calgary, the Stampeders are 3-1 straight up against the Riders. The Riders have struggled with the Stampeders against the spread, as they are 2-8 in their last 10 games against the number. The Stampeders have the best home field record at 7-1 in eight games, while the Riders are 5-3 on the road this year.
Saskatchewan Roughriders
The Roughriders are coming off their worst loss of the season, a 31-0 blanking from the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Glass half full scenario? Yes. For the last couple of weeks it seemed like this was likely to happen for the Roughriders as the defence and special teams have taken turns bailing out a failing offence, and winning games for the team. Now, with two games left and a bye week as well, the team has a chance to correct its mistakes heading into the post season.
More good news, a Roughriders’ win in either or their last two games would seal second place in the West division. The Riders made some big news Tuesday morning adding National offensive lineman Dakoda Shepley to the practice roster. The Riders selected Shepley in the first round (fifth overall) in the 2018 CFL Draft. He was recently released from the New York Jets camp. Adding a Canadian lineman to the roster of the CFL team is a big move that can strengthen a running attack in the post season. The Roughriders starting back is Tre Mason. He has ranked number four in the CFL with 743 yards rushing but has failed to run for 100 yards in a single game in the last five.
Calgary Stampeders
Like the Roughriders, the Stampeders enter this game after a surprise loss to the BC Lions (26-21). It was their first loss of the season at MacMahon Stadium, and overall, only their seventh loss at home in the last six years (regular season). Even more surprising, the team struggled to score points. Entering the game, the Stampeders averaged 30.7 points per game, but could only muster up a field goal in the entire second half of their loss to the Lions. The team also struggled to move the ball on the ground against the Lions, totalling only 38 yards.
Newcomer Chris Matthews played his first CFL game of the season (previously released in the NFL) and caught three passes for 45 yards and a touchdown. He’ll be looked upon to provide some relief to the receiver position with Eric Rogers, who is back from injury, and Bakari Grant. Grant had a strong 2017 season with the Roughriders, racking up 1,033 yards but was cut from the Green Riders at the end of training camp. There’s no doubt that he’ll be interested in showing his former team that it was a mistake releasing him.
