Worst battles first on Saturday night as the undefeated Edmonton Elks visit the winless BC Lions in CFL Week 5 betting action at the Apple Bowl in Kelowna. The Elks have emerged as the surprise story of the 2026 CFL campaign, seizing the top of the CFL West standings while opening their schedule with three straight victories, capped by last week’s 23-18 win in Winnipeg. Conversely, it was a disappointing June for the Lions, who are coming off a 41-33 loss to Calgary that marks their third decisive defeat in as many contests this season.

The Elks travel to Kelowna as slim 1.5-point road favourites on the CFL odds. The Lions trail as +110 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 57.5.

CFL Odds and Betting Trends

The Elks enjoy a golden opportunity to turn the page on a lengthy losing narrative when facing BC when they hit the gridiron on Saturday night. Edmonton has dropped 11 of 12 to the Lions including each of the past three, and have covered the spread just twice during that dismal 1-11-0 SU run. The Elks have seen each of their past three losses to the Lions come by big double-digit margins, and have not posted a SU win in BC since October 2019. Edmonton has managed to score 20+ points just twice during their current head-to-head swoon. Those results have contributed to a steady 7-2 run for the UNDER in totals betting. And although the Elks remain the lone undefeated team in the CFL after four weeks of play, their fast start has failed to give them much of a lift on the Grey Cup odds, where they remain well off the pace as a +900 bet, while the Lions edge them out at +750.

Edmonton Elks

The Elks have built their fast start on a pair of stingy wins on the road, surrendering just 19.5 points per game in their victories in Ottawa and Winnipeg. Indeed, the Elks wasted no time seizing an early 17-0 lead over the Blue Bombers last week, and have surrendered just three total points in first-quarter action so far this season. That stout defensive play has helped extend a steady run for the UNDER, which has gone 14-3 in 17 overall outings since early July 2025. Cody Fajardo has been typically unspectacular under centre, connecting on 68.4% of pass attempts for just 764 yards, three TDs and one pick over the first three games. However, Justin Rankin has been steady in the backfield. The veteran running back rushed for 105 yards and one score versus the Bombers, and now leads the league with 387 rushing yards, and four scoring runs.

BC Lions

While the Elks have stormed out of the gate, the Lions have sputtered, surrendering 41 points in each of the past two games and racking up a -26 point differential, second worse in the CFL, during their 0-3-0 start. The squad has surrendered early leads in each of three outings to date, and have scored just six total points in the opening frame, leaving them with a daunting task in Saturday’s date with the Elks’ shutdown defence. But after struggling to find the end zone in the first two games of the season, Lions passer Nathan Rourke finally broke through last week in Calgary, completing 32 of 42 passes for 462 yards, three touchdowns, and one pick. Rourke has made full use of his receiving corps, with four of his targets compiling over 140 passing yards through Week 4, led by Justin McInnis with 247 yards. But

last week was all about Keon Hatcher, who pulled in nine catches for 162 yards, and Jermaine Jackson, with 149 yards and one score. Hatcher also played a big role in last October’s 37-24 win over Edmonton that eliminated the Elks from playoff contention, tallying 97 receiving yards and one TD.
