Alouettes vs. Stampeders Prediction: CFL Week 6 Point Spread, Odds

There’s no Sports Interaction line as of this writing because of the uncertainty of the Stamps’ QB.

Betting Analysis

All things being equal, Calgary is likely at least two-touchdown favorite over Montreal here if Stampeders star quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell is healthy. As of this writing, it’s not clear if he will play and bettors won’t see a number posted at Sports Interaction until there’s a bit more clarity. Obviously, no one player on any football team affects the spread (and total) more than the starting quarterback.

Calgary at full strength is clearly the class of the CFL thus far as it not only is the only unbeaten team but every other club has at least two losses. The Stamps have given up just 38 points in four games – the next-lowest total is 84 points surrendered by Hamilton. On the updated Grey Cup odds, Calgary is down to +175 with no other team better than +500. Montreal is a +4000 long shot.

The Als have covered six of the past seven meetings overall but only two of the past eight in Calgary. The Stamps rolled at home last late year by a score of 59-11 but lost in Montreal early in the 2017 season, 30-23.

Montreal Alouettes

Perhaps having last week off will help matters for Montreal. It has scored a league-low 61 points (tied with Toronto) and allowed 123, the second-most behind Edmonton — which has played one more game. The only game in which the Als scored more than 18 points they won: Week 3 in Saskatchewan, 23-17.

Ahead of the bye, Montreal was beaten 28-18 at home by Ottawa. The Alouettes made a few moves this week, adding supplemental draft pick Tyler Johnston on the offensive line and defensive back Greg Ducre while releasing offensive lineman Xavier Fulton and kicker Austin Renkow. Fulton was the team’s Week 1 starter at tackle, but the O-Line has surrendered a league-high 14 sacks. Montreal has covered just one of its past eight on the road and only one of its past 12 following a loss.

Calgary Stampeders

Mitchell left last Thursday’s 27-3 win in Ottawa in the second quarter after taking a low hit from defensive lineman Danny Mason and didn’t return. Mitchell was 16-for-21 for 166 yards and a TD. It’s simply being called a lower-body injury and there’s nothing significant, but that doesn’t mean Mitchell will play here despite being spotted at practice this week in non-competitive drills. The Stamps likely believe they can beat Montreal without him.

If Mitchell sits, Nick Arbuckle would start and he was 8 of 14 for 84 yards and a touchdown against the Redblacks. The defence was the story of the game vs. Ottawa, holding the Redblacks to less than 200 yards. Defensive lineman Micah Johnson had the game of his life with three sacks and two forced fumbles and was named a CFL Top Performer of the Week. Calgary has covered five of its past six vs. teams with a losing record.
