Sun vs. Fever WNBA Betting Odds, Picks: Indiana looks for sixth straight win over Connecticut

Two teams heading in opposite directions meet Friday, as the Indiana Fever host the Connecticut Sun at 7:30 p.m. ET.

Indiana enters at 25-14 and has already clinched a playoff berth, but there is plenty left to play for. The Fever sit fifth in a crowded playoff race, with only three games separating the No. 3 and No. 8 seeds.

Connecticut is 10-28 and playing out the final weeks of a disappointing season. The Sun have lost seven straight road games and now face a team that has beaten them five times in a row.

Indiana has won both meetings this season, including a franchise-record 123-88 rout at Gainbridge Fieldhouse last month.

Indiana is a massive -17.5 home favourite with a -2000 moneyline, while Connecticut is +1000. The total sits at 177.5 points on the WNBA odds.

The Fever covered in both previous meetings this season, winning 85-75 as -8.5 favourites in June before covering a 10.5-point spread in last month’s 35-point blowout.

Indiana is 13-6 SU at home, while Connecticut is just 3-15 on the road.

Connecticut Sun

Things are getting increasingly difficult for a Connecticut team already near the bottom of the WNBA standings.

The Sun are coming off an 89-64 home loss to Golden State on Wednesday in which they trailed by as many as 35 points. Charlisse Leger-Walker provided one bright spot with a career-high 17 points, but Connecticut was out-rebounded 42-30.

Brittney Griner will miss her seventh straight game with a knee injury, while Olivia Nelson-Ododa could miss her third straight game with a knee injury as well. Leïla Lacan, who was averaging 11.6 points and 4.6 assists, is unavailable after leaving the team to join the French national team for the upcoming World Cup.

That leaves an already struggling offence even thinner. Connecticut ranks last in the WNBA at 78.8 points per game.

Indiana Fever

The Fever return home after completing a 3-2 road trip with an impressive 113-90 victory over Chicago on Sunday.

Caitlin Clark buried a career-high eight three-pointers and finished with 37 points, while Kelsey Mitchell scored 30. The Fever made a franchise-record 18 threes and snapped a two-game skid.

Indiana leads the WNBA in scoring at 96.6 points per game while also topping the league in field-goal percentage and three-point percentage.

The Fever should welcome back Aliyah Boston, who was sidelined against the Sky while resting a lingering right lower-leg injury. 

Boston averages 17.0 points and a team-high 8.4 rebounds, but Indiana had little trouble replacing her production against Chicago. Lexie Hull scored 14 points, while Makayla Timpson contributed 12 points and nine rebounds. 

WNBA Prediction: Who will win Sun vs. Fever?

Giving 17.5 points is a lot in any professional basketball game, but there is a clear gap in quality between these teams right now.

Connecticut is missing several important players and owns the lowest-scoring offence in the WNBA, which is a bad mix against a Fever team that scored 123 points the last time the Sun visited Indianapolis.

Clark and Mitchell give the Fever more than enough firepower to overwhelm Connecticut’s depleted roster, and Boston adds another piece averaging 17.5 points against the Sun this season.

The Fever should also have plenty of motivation with playoff positioning still at stake.
