Boston Red Sox vs. New York Yankees: Odds, Prediction
The final Red Sox-Yankees series of 2026 opens Friday night in New York with legitimate postseason implications. The Yankees enter 75-57 and hold the top AL Wild Card spot, 2.5 games ahead of 73-60 Boston, while both clubs continue chasing the 79-54 Rays.
Boston leads the season series 5-4 after winning the last two meetings in June, and another four-game rivalry set could reshape the Wild Card race entering September.
First pitch from Yankee Stadium is scheduled for 7:15 p.m. ET on Apple TV.
New York is a -160 favourite to win on the MLB odds, with the total set at 7.0.
MLB Betting Odds and Trends
These are two excellent road-oriented clubs meeting in a spot where home field may not mean as much as usual. Boston is 39-28 away from Fenway, while New York is 34-29 at home.
Both bullpens have been elite, with Boston leading MLB at a 2.85 ERA and New York ranking second at 3.04. The Yankees have also leaned under this season, going 56-73-3 against game totals, but Friday’s pitching matchup creates reasons to zag.
Boston Red Sox
Boston arrives with major reinforcements on the way.
Trevor Story is expected to play his first game since May 14, while Roman Anthony is set to return for the first time since May 4. Isaiah Kiner-Falefa, Garrett Whitlock and Adley Rutschman could also rejoin the roster, potentially giving the Red Sox their deepest lineup in months.
The offence already leads baseball with a .796 OPS since the All-Star break.
The concern is starter Patrick Sandoval. He owns a 4.54 ERA and ugly 1.76 WHIP, allowing 52 hits and 18 walks in 39.2 innings. His 5.59 road ERA only adds to the concern.
New York Yankees
New York remains without Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton, removing enormous power from a lineup that has struggled since the break. The Yankees rank just 28th in MLB with a .662 second-half OPS.
Still, Friday presents a favourable matchup against Sandoval. Left-handed hitters have crushed him for a .432 average and 1.126 OPS, which could put Cody Bellinger, Ben Rice, Jazz Chisholm Jr. and Trent Grisham in excellent spots.
On the mound, Cam Schlittler gives New York a major advantage. The Massachusetts native owns a 2.16 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 193 strikeouts in 158 innings. However, his 3.71 home ERA is considerably higher than his dominant 1.14 road mark.
MLB Prediction: Who Will Win Red Sox vs. Yankees?
Schlittler is clearly the superior starter, but +140 is enough value for me to take a shot on Boston.
The Red Sox are finally getting healthier, own baseball’s best second-half offence and have a slight bullpen edge if they can keep the game close through Sandoval’s innings. New York’s left-handed power should still create plenty of offence against him, which makes the over my favourite wager.
Boston has enough firepower to make Schlittler work at home and enough late-inning pitching to steal another close rivalry game.
Best Bet: Over 7.5 Runs
