Anaheim Ducks vs. Edmonton Oilers Prediction, NHL Odds
The Anaheim Ducks land in Edmonton on Monday, looking to steal second place in the Pacific Division from the Oilers.
The Ducks are the hottest team in the league at the moment, cruising to seven straight wins after an overtime win in Calgary Sunday, and now sit just a single point behind the Oilers in the Pacific. Edmonton just snapped a two-game skid of its own, but has yet to find consistency in the new year.
The NHL odds have the Oilers listed as a -140 favourite on the moneyline. The OVER/UNDER is set at an even seven goals, with puck drop from Rogers Place set for 8:30 p.m. EST.
Ducks vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
Monday marks the first meeting of the season between these Pacific Division rivals, which could not have come at a better time, given how close this division is becoming. Last year’s season series saw the Ducks win three of four, which played the OVER/UNDER 2-2. Monday’s total of seven goals sounds high, but it is common for this matchup. The OVER has hit in five of their past eight matchups, with the total listed at 6.5 or higher.
Anaheim (29-19-4 O/U) and Edmonton (28-19-6 O/U) are both at the top of the league as far as OVERs go this season.
The Ducks have tightened up defensively as of late, which is paying off big time, leading them to their seven-game heater. They have given up just 1.85 goals per game over the span of their win streak, a big improvement on their season total of 3.48 per game, second-worst in the league. They have covered the spread in five of their past seven games, pushing their record ATS to 27-25 on the year.
Edmonton has played the OVER/UNDER 5-4-1 in their past 10 contests, as their offence continues to click at an impressive 3.38 goals per game, good for third in the league. Their inconsistency this season has led them to a rough 21-32 record against the spread this season. They have covered just three times in their past 10 games, while going 5-3-2 over that stretch.
Anaheim Ducks
Anaheim’s youth has helped them stick around in games all season, and they continue finding ways to win. They opened their current five-game road trip in Colorado, turning in a 2-1 win over the best in the league and followed that with a 4-2 win over the Seattle Kraken. They played in Calgary last night and came back from an early 2-0 deficit to steal a 4-3 win in overtime over the Flames.
Rookie Beckett Sennecke had the best game of his career on Sunday, tying the game with back-to-back goals in the second period. Both teams exchanged goals in the third, setting the scene for Sennecke’s overtime winner to complete his first NHL hat trick.
The 19-year-old has collected 41 points (18G, 23A) in his first season, putting him second amongst rookies in points, two behind Montreal’s Ivan Demidov. The NHL futures board is giving the third-best odds to win the Calder Trophy this season at +1000, behind Demidov and the Islanders’ Matthew Schaefer.
Anaheim is looking for a season-high eight straight wins on Monday and its fourth in a row on the road. Their current record as the visitors is 13-13-2.
Edmonton Oilers
After getting picked apart in a 6-2 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday, the Oilers bounced back on Saturday, sneaking away with a 6-5 win over the Washington Capitals. The game was back and forth all the way through, with the lead changing four times throughout the night. Edmonton’s big guns carried the lead in this one, with an impressive showing from defenceman Evan Bouchard, who scored his first career hat trick, while adding three assists. Connor McDavid scored a pair, including the overtime winner, as part of his five-point (2G, 3A) night.
Zach Hyman continued his impressive stretch, scoring the game-tying goal with 32 seconds to go in regulation. In the 15 games since the holiday break, Hyman has scored 10 goals and accumulated 14 points.
The Oilers started with Connor Ingram in goal on Saturday, but he was pulled after three goals on 12 shots, just over halfway through the game. Tristan Jarry turned the game around, sealing the victory, stopping 13 of 15 shots. Jarry is 5-2-1 through eight games with his new club, and despite his .880 save percentage, he has been used as their number one when healthy.
