Arguably the most anticipated UFC fight of the year will see Conor McGregor enter the Octagon for the first time in five years as he prepares to face Max Holloway in a welterweight bout on Saturday.

The rematch between McGregor and Holloway will be the main event of a stacked UFC 329 card that also features notable fighters like Paddy Pimblett, Benoit Saint-Denis, Cory Sandhagen and Brandon Royval.

Here’s how the McGregor vs. Holloway odds have shifted.

McGregor vs. Holloway 2 odds

After a long layoff, 37-year-old McGregor opened as a heavy +350 underdog, while Holloway was a -550 favourite. Entering fight week, those odds have shortened considerably, with McGregor sitting at +190 and Holloway at -235.

The duo originally faced off on August 17, 2013 with McGregor winning by unanimous decision in Boston. It was the Dublin native’s 10th straight victory, but just his second fight in the UFC.

For Holloway, it marked his third loss in 10 UFC fights.

“Notorious” hasn’t stepped into the Octagon since July 2021 when he suffered a broken leg in a second straight TKO loss against Dustin Poirier. McGregor was scheduled to fight Michael Chandler in 2024, but the fight was called off with a broken toe cited as the reason.

Holloway has obviously been more active since McGregor’s last fight. “Blessed” has fought eight times in that stretch, going 5-3. His last fight was a unanimous decision loss against Charles Oliveira in March.

Despite McGregor’s status as an all-time great fighter, it’s easy to see why oddsmakers have him pegged as an underdog because of his injury history, legal issues and lengthy suspension for missed drug tests.

While Holloway isn’t knocking on the door to challenge for the welterweight division, he remains active and he’s been able to produce a winning record in the half-decade since McGregor last fought.
