World Cup Day 27 Betting Parlay Picks: The Lionel Messi Train Rolls On
It has been a very fun and profitable World Cup so far if you have followed my overview picks on Tuesdays and with the quarterfinals at hand, this will be my last version of the tournament because these are the final two Round of 16 matches on July 7. The event actually takes a day off Wednesday before starting the quarterfinals.

Argentina vs. Egypt
Location: Atlanta
Time: Tuesday, noon ET
How to watch in Canada: TSN, TSN+
The winner will face the winner of Tuesday’s later game in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Could this be the last World Cup match for Argentine legend Lionel Messi? Currently at age 39, no one expects him back in 2030 when Spain, Portugal and Morocco co-host.
But Messi has not missed a single beat as he is tied for the tournament lead at seven goals alongside France’s Kylian Mbappe (has played one more game) and Norway’s Erling Haaland. Mbappe is the current +120 leader for the Golden Boot and Messi +160. And that’s really only because France is the +170 event favourite and Argentina at +425. Messi’s 20 career World Cup goals are a record, and he’s the first to score in eight straight World Cup games – the final four in 2022 and all four this year.
Defending champion Argentina looks to reach the quarterfinals for the fifth time in the past six World Cups but was pushed to the absolute limit in the Round of 32 by little Cabo Verde, escaping 3-2 in added extra time. It marked the first time Argentina gave up two goals since a 2-1 loss vs Paraguay in 2024 qualifying for the World Cup, a span of 18 games.
It’s the first-ever World Cup matchup between Argentina and Egypt, which has a world-class scorer of its own in Mohamed Salah, whose 68 career goals for country are second-most. He has one in this event but leads the club with two assists. He also leads Egypt with 16 chances created, 11 more than any teammate.
But Egypt, ranked 24th in the world, tends to go how 31-year-old Trezeguet does. He has a goal in this event and Egypt has 17 wins, four draws and no losses all-time in a match when he does score. Emam Ashour leads the side two goals here.
Argentina vs. Egypt betting pick: Both teams to score +145
Parlay pick: Argentina to advance and Lionel Messi anytime goal

Switzerland vs. Colombia
Location: BC Place, Vancouver
Time: Tuesday, 4 p.m. ET
How to watch in Canada: TSN, TSN+
As noted, this match winner will face the early winner in the quarterfinals Saturday (in Kansas City) and either would be a sizeable underdog against world No. 2 Argentina. It’s the second World Cup meeting between the countries as Colombia beat the Swiss 2-0 in the 1994 World Cup group stage in Stanford, Calif. Yet Colombia finished bottom of that group and the Switzerland did move on.
The world No. 15 Swiss eye their first World Cup quarters spot since 1954 when they lost a wild 7-5 match to Austria. But Switzerland is one of only four teams to make the Round of 16 at each of the past four World Cups along with superpowers Argentina, Brazil (won’t make it this year) and France. Switzerland’s 2-0 win over Algeria in the Round of 32 was the country’s first victory in a World Cup knockout game since 1938, snapping a seven-game skid.
The Swiss have earned three straight wins and three total wins at a World Cup for the first time. They have scored at least one goal in six straight WC matches, a team record. And they have just one total loss in their past 18 matches (11 wins, six draws). Johan Manzambi leads the team with three goals in this event and tied for the team lead with two assists. The 20-year-old is the youngest player with at least five goals + assists at any World Cup in the past 60 years.
No. 11 Colombia seeks its second-ever World Cup quarters appearance since losing to Brazil in 2014. It has been defensively dominant with just one goal allowed and three straight clean sheets, a first in country history at the World Cup. Overall, the Colombians are unbeaten in seven straight WC games (two draws) and have outscored foes 10-2 in those with five clean sheets.
Daniel Muñoz leads Colombia with two goals this event, but James Rodriguez is the big name. He became the first Colombian player to win the Golden Boot at World Cup in 2014. But the 34-year-old hasn’t scored this year and often is subbed out in the second half for defence.
Switzerland vs. Colombia betting pick: Colombia to advance (-160)
Parlay pick: Both teams to not score and Under 2.5 goals
