New York Islanders vs. Vancouver Canucks Prediction, NHL Odds
Part of this action brings an intra-conference battle between the New York Islanders and Vancouver Canucks. These teams met back on December 19, where Vancouver won 4-1 on the road. New York will be looking to spoil this home game for the Canucks, and should be fully prepped to do so.
Islanders vs. Canucks NHL Betting Odds
On the puck line this season, New York has been excellent at 27-21, while Vancouver expectedly has struggled at 20-28. This could be yet another multi-goal loss for Vancouver, and the money line reflects that. The Canucks are +120 at home while the Islanders are -140.
In the game totals, the Canucks are 25-21-2 to the over, while the Islanders are 21-25-2. The total is set at 6.0 goals for this game, with a slight lean towards the over at -115 as opposed to -105 for the under.
Mathew Barzal (+170) for New York and Elias Pettersson (+175) for Vancouver lead their respective teams in odds to score. This would be a great opportunity for Barzal to score, who has just one goal in his last 12 games, and the Canucks are truly struggling.
New York Islanders
The New York Islanders’ strong season continues, as their 26-17-5 record has them sitting second in the Metropolitan Division. Their strong success has been somewhat of a surprise, but at this point of the season, it is fully deserved and can be expected going forward.
This is a good matchup for them as they look to bounce back from a 4-2 loss to a weaker Calgary team. This is their sixth of a seven-game road trip, but they have been solid away from home, going 2-2-1 during this trip. Their standing in the Eastern Conference has a minimal cushion, so all points matter and there is no reason they don’t show up prepared.
Bo Horvat and Kyle Palmieri are missing from the lineup due to injury, but their roster still outmatches Vancouver’s in my eyes. New York greatly outscores and defends better than Vancouver, while penalty kill and save percentage are two other key categories in favour of New York.
Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks’ struggles continue, and they are on a major cold streak. They have lost seven-straight games in regulation and are 0-8-2 in their last 10. They have also been outscored a whopping 46-17 in that span.
Their record of 16-27-5 has the Canucks dead last in the NHL with 37 points, and things seem unlikely to change. They are bottom-three in goals per game (2.54) and goals against per game (3.65), which are the ultimate tell of their flaws and diminished roster.
Marco Rossi, Kiefer Sherwood, Thatcher Demko, Filip Chytil, Teddy Blueger, and Derek Forbort all remain out of the lineup due to injury. This will not help the league’s worst roster in their efforts to pick up two points in this one.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Islanders vs. Canucks?
There is not much to talk about in terms of the Canucks of late. They have looked completely checked out on the ice, and the fact they are on home ice taking on an Islanders team on their sixth straight road game won’t matter. New York is young, energetic, and exciting, and I expect an extra pep in their step to return to the win column. Their solid play should result in a 4-1 victory for the Islanders.
