Philadelphia Flyers vs. Ottawa Senators Prediction, NHL Odds
The struggling Senators complete a four-game homestand on Thursday night by welcoming an average Philadelphia Flyers team for the only time this season. Ottawa is-165 on the NHL odds with a total of 5.5 goals.
Flyers vs. Senators NHL Betting Odds
The NHL is a lot more interesting league when the Philadelphia Flyers are contenders, but they haven’t been in a long time and haven’t even reached the playoffs since the shortened 2019-20 campaign. That five-season streak missing matches the longest in franchise history (1990-94).
This is the first season behind the Flyers bench for head coach Rick Tocchet. He had spent the previous three seasons as coach of the Vancouver Canucks, going 108-65-27, but opted to step away from that position in late April most likely for contract reasons. And going to Philly was a homecoming of sorts as Tocchet was selected by the Flyers in sixth round (No. 121) of the 1983 NHL Draft, and he played 11 of his 18 NHL seasons for Philadelphia.
The Senators have won the season series against the Flyers 2-1 in each of the past four, and Philly will not return to Ottawa this season. Thomas Chabot (1G, 4A) and Tm Stutzle (2G, 3A) led the Senators with five points each in the 2024-25 series. Anton Forsberg, now with Los Angeles, won both his starts in net and Linus Ullmark lost his in allowing five goals. A handful of players led the Flyers with three points each in the series. Ivan Fedotov was in net for all three but is no longer with the franchise.
Ottawa is 7-3 in the past 10 meetings overall, and the over-under is 6-4.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers are 0-2 on the road but just completed a four-game homestand at 3-1 following Monday’s 5-2 win over Seattle. Owen Tippett was the No. 1 star with two goals and leads the team with five on the season. He has scored in three straight games, one shy of his career high set in November 2023. Blueliner Cam York had three helpers and forward Sean Couturier had two. Couturier has seven points over the past four games after zero in the first two.
Trevor Zegras had a helper and became the first Flyers player in 11 years to record a five-game assist streak in his first season with the team; he had spent his career with Anaheim. Former Calgary Flames netminder Dan Vladar has settled in as Philly’s No. 1 and got the win Monday to improve to 3-1-0 with a 1.75 goals-against average and .929 SV. The Flyers are 1-10 in their past 11 road games.
Ottawa Senators
Ottawa is 1-2 on this four-game homestand following a 3-2 OT loss to Edmonton on Tuesday, but getting a point was an achievement as the Sens trailed 2-0 entering the third. Dylan Cozens (fourth goal of season) and Thomas Chabot (first) tied it, but Jake Walman’s power-play goal at 2:24 of OT won it. It was Chabot’s 72nd career goal to pass Chris Phillips for third most by a Senators defenseman. Chabot has a three-game points streak and Cozens a five-game run.
Linus Ullmark played his best game of the season but slipped to 2-3-1 with a 3.80 GAA and an .854 SV. He probably gets the call Friday. Coach Travis Green scratched defenceman Jordan Spence in favour of Nikolas Matinpalo on Tuesday after Spence was on the ice for the winner by the Islanders on Saturday. Ottawa is 7-3 in its past 10 vs. Metropolitan Division foes.
