RedBlacks vs. Alouettes Prediction: CFL Week 4 Point Spread, Odds

The RedBlacks are coming off a 44-29 loss to the visiting Toronto Argonauts that extends their current losing streak to eight games, and have dropped for straight on the road while falling to defeat in 10 of their past 11 overall. The Alouettes return home after suffering their first defeat of the season, a 32-29 loss in Edmonton, but have tallied four straight victories on home turf, capped by a 27-20 victory over the Argos two weeks ago.

The Alouettes have emerged as lofty 8.5-point favourites on the CFL Week 4 odds. The RedBlacks trail as +325 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total is listed at 55.5.

CFL Odds and Betting

In addition to snapping their current eight-game slide, the RedBlacks have a mountain to climb in their bid to halt an 11-game losing streak versus the Alouettes that includes five straight losses in Montreal, with those victories coming by an average margin of 17.2 points. The RedBlacks have scored fewer than 20 points in four of their past five dates with the Als, and have failed to cover the spread in eight straight meetings with Montreal. That run of futility at the sportsbook extends to Ottawa’s overall losing streak, with the team going winless ATS in eight straight outings, and nine of 10 overall. The Als have been a somewhat more reliable bet, going 7-2 ATS in their past nine, including three straight ATS wins at home. However, they have produced mixed results as big home chalk, going 6-4 SU and 3-7 ATS in their past eight while favoured by 8+ points.

Ottawa RedBlacks

Home cooking provided no benefit to the RedBlacks to the start the campaign, with the team surrendering 36.5 points per game while losing by an average margin of 14 points in their first two contests of the season. Now buried as massive +3500 longshots on the Grey Cup odds, the RedBlacks have yet to hold a lead during their 0-2-0 start, and with Jake Maier leading the offence, the squad has mustered just two total touchdowns before halftime son far this season. Maier had a particularly rough night last week versus the Argos, connecting on  a respectable 25 of 40 pass attempts for 281 yards, but tossed two picks against just one TD, and has failed to find the end zone after the break, with Ottawa averaging just 11 second-half points. Daniel Adeboboye provided the spark for a RedBlacks backfield that has struggled, racking up 87 rushing yards and one TD versus Edmonton, but was a non-factor last week versus the Argos.

Montreal Alouettes

The Alouettes have kept their fans on the edge of their seats during their 2-1-0 start, with two of their first three contests getting settled in overtime including last week’s heartbreaking loss to the Elks. The Montreal offence has remained productive, averaging 32 points per game. However, the Als have been prone to slow starts, averaging just 4.3 points per game in the opening quarter and just 12.3 points before halftime. The squad has also had to overcome fourth-quarter deficits in each of their first three contests and has surrendered a worrisome 29.7 points per game to date.

Fresh off his first-ever regular season defeat as Montreal’s starting quarterback, Davis Alexander will be happy to return home after connecting on just one score in Edmonton. Alexander enjoyed an impressive home debut in a 37-20 win over Toronto, tossing for 441 yards and two TDs. Receiver Tyson Philpot has quickly developed chemistry with Alexander while racking up 129.7 yards per game and three scoring catches, both league highs.
