New York Mets vs. Toronto Blue Jays: Odds, Prediction
The Blue Jays open their final home series ahead of the All-Star break on Monday night by welcoming a massively disappointing New York Mets team that recently fired its manager. The Jays are -125 on the MLB odds with a total of 8.5 runs.
MLB Betting Odds and Trends
Money can and can’t buy you a championship in Major League Baseball. The two-time defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers have proven that spending works if you do it wisely. But it’s the New York Mets who yet again have the biggest payroll in the sport but will miss the postseason for a second straight year barring a turnaround of historic proportions. It’s dysfunctional franchise currently.
At 35-49, New York has a better record in the National League than only the rebuilding Colorado Rockies and is 9.5 games out of the last wild-card spot in the Senior Circuit. One of the team’s big offseason moves in giving former Blue Jays infielder Bo Bichette a big free-agent contract hasn’t worked that well, although Bichette hasn’t been terrible at the plate batting .254 with 10 homers and 46 knocked in.
It appears the front office/ownership finally gave up on the season last Friday when they fired manager Carlos Mendoza. He was hired ahead of the 2024 season and led the Mets all the way to the NLCS his first year. The 2025 campaign got off to a great start at with a 45-24 record before an utter collapse that carried over into 2026. Andy Green was named interim manager for the remainder of the season. No doubt that the Mets will be sellers ahead of the trade deadline – maybe even dealing Bichette because he can opt-out of his deal and become a free agent again.
This three-game set is the only scheduled series between the clubs. The Blue Jays were swept three at Citi Field in 2025 and lost two of three the last time the Mets visited Rogers Centre in 2024.
New York Mets
Since making the managerial change, the Mets are 1-1 after losing a series finale 5-4 at home to Philadelphia on Sunday as the bullpen blew a seventh-inning lead. Star shortstop Francisco Lindor got the game off after recently returning from missing more ore than two months with a left calf strain but should be in there Monday. The team still has a few regulars on the injured list in infielder and former Blue Jay Marcus Semien, infielder Jorge Polanco and outfielder Luis Robert.
Veteran lefty Sean Manaea (1-2, 4.87 ERA) is on the mound Monday. He began the year in relief and has made 17 total appearances with three starts. He is winless in three straight outings and hit hard last time out in a no-decision vs. the Cubs. George Springer has seen him the most of any Blue Jays batter and is hitting .317 with two doubles and a homer in 41 at-bats. Might see Myles Straw get a rare start tonight as he’s 4-for-11 off Manaea with a double. New York is 1-8 in its past nine games.
Toronto Blue Jays
Toronto enters on a six-game skid, with all coming at Rogers Centre no less. The offence has largely gone quiet, managing only two runs in Sunday’s one-run loss to Texas. Rangers pinch-runner Jarred Kelenic scored the tie-breaking run by racing home from second base on a wild pitch in the ninth inning to complete the four-game sweep for his club. Amazingly, Toronto has now allowed a first-inning run in seven straight games. Meanwhile, in 28 innings against Rangers starters in that series, the Blue Jays scored only three runs.
Rookie righty Trey Yesavage (3-3, 3.56 ERA) is on the mound for this one. After two rough starts to open June, he has allowed four runs and six hits over 13.0 innings in the next two – both no-decisions. Yesavage has struggled at home to a 4.73 ERA. It’s his first career start vs. Texas. The over is 6-3 in Toronto’s past nine.
