Super Bowl 58 Coin Toss Odds, Prediction and Betting History: Heads or Tails?
The Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers will meet in Super Bowl 58 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Sunday. One of the most popular Super Bowl novelty props will actually be decided before the game starts as bettors make their pick on heads or tails for the coin toss.
Lets take a look at the Super Bowl coin toss betting history.
Super Bowl 58 Coin Toss Odds
Even though the Super Bowl is played at a neutral site, the NFL still designates a “home” and “away” team, alternating between the conferences each year.
This year the 49ers will get the call, which could make superstitious San Francisco fans nervous. The Niners also made the coin toss call when they faced Kansas City in Super Bowl 54 a few years ago. San Francisco correctly called tails (and deferred), but ended up losing the game.
The Chiefs have had mixed results when calling the coin toss at the Super Bowl during the Patrick Mahomes era. They correctly called heads (and deferred) against Tampa Bay in Super Bowl 55, but lost the game. Last year at Super Bowl 57, Kansas City correctly called tails (and deferred), going on to win against Philadelphia.

Over the last decade, tails has clearly been the play as it’s cashed in seven of the last 10 Super Bowls. But, we’re talking about a 50/50 outcome and when you go back to the first Super Bowl, that average drifts back to the middle. Tails has come up 30 times since the first Super Bowl, while heads has come up 27 times.
The longest streak for both sides is four years. The coin toss outcome was heads every year from 1990 to 1993, which ironically featured the Bills losing each of those Super Bowls. Tails has had three different streaks of four years: 1998 to 2001, 2003 to 2006 and 2014-17.
And how does winning the coin toss reflect on a team’s chances to win the Super Bowl? Well, over the last 10 years it’s not positive. Last year in Super Bowl 57, the Chiefs became just the second team since Seattle in Super Bowl 48 to win the coin toss and win the Super Bowl.

Super Bowl 58 Coin Toss Prediction
While I may not be known as a math expert by any stretch of the imagination, I understand how 50/50 odds work and I’m siding with the percentages and calling heads as the odds would suggest it’s due to be the Super Bowl 58 coin toss outcome.
Bonus prediction: because the Niners picked tails in Super Bowl 54 and lost against the Chiefs, I’m taking San Francisco to pick heads and win the Super Bowl 58 coin toss.
