The 2026 FIFA World Cup quarterfinals have arrived, and we have a great tilt between France and Morocco to kick things off. While the French have been the tournament frontrunners since their opening 3-1 win against Senegal, Morocco is the biggest dark horse left and could continue their dream run with an upset.

This game will be a rematch of the 2022 World Cup semifinals, when France won 2-0, which adds an extra layer of revenge for the Moroccans. This match kicks off the quarterfinal action, so let’s dive into my France vs Morocco predictions.

France FIFA World Cup odds and news

France looked unstoppable through their first four World Cup games, rattling off four consecutive victories while outscoring their opponents 13-2. However, they could only score from the penalty spot in their 1-0 Round of 16 win against Paraguay, but I expect them to return to their scoring ways in the quarterfinals. Les Bleus are unbeaten in their last 12 competitive games and have rattled off seven straight wins.

Kylian Mbappé (seven goals and two assists) is France’s biggest threat, but his supporting cast of Ousmane Dembélé, Bradley Barcola, and Michael Olise makes for a long day for any defence they face. However, France will likely be without Aurélien Tchouaméni in midfield because of a groin injury, but Manu Kone has covered well in his absence. A win against Morocco would make France just the third country to reach three consecutive World Cup semifinals, but three of their non-penalty shootout losses at the World Cup this century have come against an African country.

Morocco FIFA World Cup odds and news

Morocco put Canada to the sword in their Round of 16 win, eliminating the host nation 3-0. The Atlas Lions are the only African nation remaining, and after the win against Canada, they became the first African team to go unbeaten in their first five games at one World Cup. If they can take down France, they would become the first African country to reach back-to-back World Cup semifinals. Their defence has allowed just four goals at this World Cup, but keeping France out will be a tall task.

The biggest worry for Morocco is that they’ll be playing without star striker Ismael Saibari after he suffered a muscle injury against Canada. However, his replacement, Soufiane Rahimi, came on to score once, and he also had a goal and an assist in their 4-2 group-stage win against Haiti. The longer this game remains 0-0, the more Morocco will believe, but I expect France to score early.

France vs. Morocco player odds and props

  • Kylian Mbappé (FRA) First Goalscorer (+290): Mbappé is currently tied with Erling Haaland on seven goals and one behind Lionel Messi on eight in the Golden Boot race, and he has scored first in four of France’s five games.
  • Soufiane Rahimi (MOR) 2+ Shots on Target (+390): The 30-year-old striker has played just 134 minutes at this World Cup, but he has four shots on target. He should play at least 60 minutes here, so I expect him to test Mike Maignan at least twice.

World Cup 2026 bracket and futures

France are the frontrunners to win the World Cup at +160 odds, while Morocco carries a +2700 price. The winner of this game will take on the winner of Spain vs Belgium.

France vs. Morocco score prediction

Both of these sides have played well defensively, as Morocco has recorded two shutouts, and France has recorded three. In the end, France has too much quality for this Moroccan side, and I expect an identical result to the 2022 World Cup meeting.
