2023 Memorial Tournament: PGA Tour Golf Tee Times, Picks, Predictions
Patrick Cantlay has captured particular attention as a +1000 bet to claim his third career Memorial Tournament crown, closely trailing favourites Scottie Scheffler and Jon Rahm, on the PGA Tour odds. But with stacked field that includes no shortage of hopefuls to claim victory at the US Open two weeks from, there are plenty of betting options to consider going into this marquee event.
Here’s a look at some of the best bets to consider this weekend at the 2023 Memorial Tournament
Horschel to Miss the Cut
There have been several players who have raised the trophy on multiple occasions over the five-decade history of this event. However, last year’s winner Billy Horschel is looking unlikely to join that group this time around. Horschel capped an impressive spring with his Memorial win last season. However, it has been all downhill since for the 36-year-old American.
In the wake of last year’s victory, Horschel failed to finish among the top twenty in his final seven PGA Tour appearances, missing the cut four times. Those struggles have carried over into 2023, with Horschel yet to crack the top ten in stroke play events, and missing the cut six times in six of his past 12 contests. Accordingly, there is real value to be found in his +144 odds to miss the cut again this weekend.
Hovland Poised for Breakthrough
Americans have dominated at this tournament, earning the win in 11 of the past 15 years. Not surprisingly, that is reflected in the PGA golf props, with the US perched as -167 to produce another winner. However, this time around there is no shortage of global rivals aiming to end that streak, with six of the top 12 golfers on the Memorial Tournament odds hailing from outside the United States.
Of particular interest is Viktor Hovland. The 25-year-old Norwegian has shone on the big stage this season, claiming top ten finishes at the PLAYERS, Masters, and PGA Championship. In addition to adding value to the +220 odds of a European claiming a Memorial Tournament win for the first time since 2020, Hovland should not be overlooked as a +551 wager to be this weekend’s top European. And with stellar opening round performances at both the Masters, RBC Heritage, and last week’s Charles Schwab Challenge, Hovland also offers great value as a +2800 bet to be this week’s Round One leader.
Jason Day, MJ Daffue
Jason Day has captured attention this season while flashing vintage form. Day ended a lengthy drought with his recent victory at the Byron nelson and has finished top ten five times in his past nine outings. However, inconsistency has emerged as an issue for the Australian, who missed the cut this month at both the Wells Fargo Championship and PGA Championship. That inconsistency extends to this tournament, where he has both finished top ten and missed the cut over the past four years. As a result, any bet on Day comes with considerable risk, with a wager on him at +599 to emerge as the top Rest of the World golfer reserved for courageous sports bettors only.
On the topic of courageous picks, golf betting fans may want to take a closer look at MJ Daffue. Currently enjoying his first full season on the PGA Tour, Daffue has recently flashed glimpses of his potential with top twenty finishes at the Valspar Championship and Valero Texas Open, and is worth a value bet as a +511 longshot to emerge as this weekend’s top South African.
Picks: Billy Horschel miss the cut (+144); Viktor Hovland top European (+551); MJ Daffue top South African (+511)
