Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz: Boxing Odds, Prediction
Andy Ruiz Jr. is on a comeback trail with an eye at another title shot, while Luis Ortiz looks to add to his legacy by facing yet another powerhouse fighter.
Ruiz is a fairly significant -356 favourite to win on the boxing odds, while Ortiz is a +247 underdog.
Andy Ruiz Jr. Boxing Odds
Ruiz has compiled a 34-2 record since making his professional debut in 2009, picking up 22 career wins by knockout and 12 by decision. His two losses were both by decision, including losing a rematch fight, and the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO and IBO titles, to Anthony Joshua in December 2019. Ruiz received a career-changing changing opportunity as a replacement opponent against Joshua in June 2019, winning the fight by seventh-round TKO and becoming the new unified heavyweight champion in one of the biggest upset wins in recent boxing history. It was a short-lived reign at the top, however, as Ruiz would lose his titles in the rematch six months later.
“Destroyer” was last in the ring in May 2021, defeating Chris Arreola by unanimous decision. Although it’s been over a year since Ruiz last fought, he has used that time to become noticeably slimmer and faster. He’ll have a four-inch reach disadvantage in this fight, but he’s still the more powerful fighter. Ruiz is 32-years-old, 11 years younger than Ortiz, which could make a big difference later in the fight. The California native also changed camps since his last fight, which should actually be beneficial. If Ruiz plays things safe early and turns up the heat later in the fight, he should have a good chance at a knockout or unanimous decision victory.
Luis Ortiz Boxing Odds
Ortiz is a former WBA interim heavyweight champion and has challenged twice for the WBC heavyweight title. In a pro career that dates back to 2010, Ortiz has a 33-2 record with two no contests. He has 28 wins by knockout, two by decision and two by disqualification. Ortiz’s only two losses both came against Deontay Wilder and were both WBC title fights. He lost to Wilder by 10th round TKO in March 2018 and by seventh round KO in November 2019. Since then, Ortiz knocked out Alexander Flores in the first round in November 2020 and earned a sixth-round TKO victory over Charles Martin earlier this year in January.
As mentioned above, “King Kong” will have a four-inch reach advantage and he’s still as powerful as ever at 43-years-old. Ortiz looked sharp in his January victory, so he’ll likely try to take advantage or Ruiz’s ring rust early on. Timing will be key for Ortiz as he looks to use his reach advantage and power to bully and punish Ruiz. Opponents have hurt Ruiz multiple times over the last few years, so Ortiz could have a chance to really do some damage if he can land some hard, clean, shots to Ruiz’s chin. Also keep in mind that Ortiz is a southpaw, which is always dangerous.
Andy Ruiz Jr. vs. Luis Ortiz Boxing Prediction
