Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos Jr.: Boxing Odds, Prediction
George Kamobosos gets set to enter the ring as a champion for the first time after claiming the WBA (Super), IBF, WBO, and The Ring lightweight titles with a narrow split decision win over Teófimo López last November, which also extended his unblemished pro boxing record to 20-0-0. Devin Haney has held the WBC lightweight title since his unanimous decision win over Alfredo Santiago in November. “The Dream” has successfully defended his crown on three occasions since, capped by a unanimous decision win over Joseph Diaz last December that boosted his perfect pro record to 27-0.
Haney gets set to battle Kambosos perched as much more conservative -183 favourite to win on the boxing odds. Kambosos shocked the boxing world with his upset victory over López as a betting long shot, and finds himself once again tagged as the underdog, sporting +138 odds in his bid for the undisputed crown.
Devin Haney vs. George Kambosos Betting Analysis
Saturday night’s championship matchup is scheduled for 11:00 p.m. ET at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Haney has enjoyed considerable support at the sportsbooks during his reign as lightweight champion. The San Francisco native has been pegged as heavy chalk in each of his three title defences, sporting odds as short as -4200. The 23-year-old established himself as a power puncher early in his career, but has regularly gone the distance of late. Each of his past four fights going a full 12 rounds.
Conversely, Kambosos still has work to due to win over sports bettors. He stunned boxing betting fans with his split decision win over López while sporting long +650 odds, and also paid out as a +125 underdog in the 12-round split decision win over Lee Selby that earned him his first title shot.
Devin Haney Boxing Odds
Haney first rose to prominence while fighting as an underage pro in Mexico, where he finished opponents inside three minutes in three of his first four fights. Overall, Haney finished opponents in 10 of his first 14 pro fights, but has seen his fight game evolve since his days fighting in Mexico.
More recently, the former US Junior and Youth National Championship gold medalist has drawn comparisons to Floyd Mayweather Jr. with his patient approach. Like Mayweather, Haney has demonstrated his ability to wear down opponents while effectively avoiding punches. While Mayweather didn’t claim his first world title until he was 21, Haney did so at age 20. He has also reached 27 wins at a faster pace than Mayweather.
George Kambosos Boxing Odds
Faced with an opponent who promised to knock him out in the first round, Kambosos proved his ability to take a punch in his narrow win over López. However, he now faces a previously unseen level of competition in his clash with Haney. While “Ferocious” also enjoys a perfect record, he has seen each of his past three wins come by the narrowest margins, all by split decision.
While Kambosos was able to take the fight to López after surviving an early onslaught, he is unlikely to enjoy the same success against Haney, who plays consummate defence in the ring, and enjoys a three-inch reach advantage that should enable to stay out of reach of Kambosos.
Davis vs. Romero Boxing Prediction
Devin Haney UNDER 9.5 rounds.
