College Football Power Rankings – Week 2

It was a week of upsets as the Pac-12 made its presence felt in the Top 25. Al Dannity breaks down the state of play in his Week 2 Power Rankings.

1. Alabama (2-0, 0-0 SEC, 1-1 ATS)
Business as usual for Bama as they rolled past the Hilltoppers. They head to Fayetteville as big favourites this weekend.
Last week: W 35-0 vs. Western Kentucky.
Next up: Saturday at Arkansas.

2. LSU (2-0, 0-0 SEC, 1-1 ATS)
The Tigers covered and kept their perfect record alive with ease against the Huskies.
Last week: W 41-3 vs. Washington.
Next up: Saturday vs. Idaho.

3. USC (2-0, 0-0 Pac-12, 0-2 ATS)
Another easy win but once again the Trojans failed to cover a big number. Conference play begins this weekend.
Last week: W 42-29 vs. Syracuse.
Next up: Saturday at Stanford.

4. Oregon (2-0, 0-0 Pac-12, 0-2 ATS)
A third straight blowout looks on the cards this weekend. No change for the high-flying Ducks.
Last week: W 42-25 vs. Fresno State.
Next up: Saturday vs. Tennessee Tech.

5. Georgia (2-0, 1-0 SEC, 1-1 ATS)
The Dawgs took most of the first half to get going but once they did it was all over in Columbia.
Last week: W 41-20 at Missouri.
Next up: Saturday vs. Florida Atlantic.

6. South Carolina (2-0, 1-0 SEC, 1-1 ATS)
The Gamecocks took care of business last week. Expect more of the same against UAB on Saturday.
Last week: W 48-10 vs. East Carolina.
Next up: Saturday vs. UAB.

7. Clemson (1-0, 0-0 ACC, 1-0 ATS)
How about that for a kick? A 61-yard going into half-time was the highlight in Saturday’s rout of Ball State.
Last week: W 52-27 vs. Ball State.
Next up: Saturday vs. Furman.

8. West Virginia (1-0, 0-0 Big 12, 1-0 ATS)
No game last weekend and a cupcake on Saturday. Business is yet to pick up in Morgantown.
Last week: Idle.
Next up: Saturday vs. James Madison.

9. TCU (1-0, 0-0 Big 12, 1-0 ATS)
Holding your opponent scoreless never looks bad on the resume. Kansas may be in trouble on Saturday.
Last week: W 56-0 vs. Grambling State.
Next up: Saturday at Kansas.

10. Oklahoma (2-0, 0-0 Big 12, 1-1 ATS)
That was more like it from the Sooners but they still have a lot to prove.
Last week: W 69-13 vs. Florida A&M.
Next up: September 22 vs. Kansas State.

11. Virginia Tech (2-0, 1-0 ACC, 0-2 ATS)
Straightforward win over a cupcake last week. It shouldn’t be much different at Pitt.
Last week: W 42-7 vs. Austin Peay.
Next up: Saturday at Pittsburgh.

12. Texas (2-0, 0-0 Big 12, 1-1 ATS)
We won’t really be able to judge the Longhorns until they meet serious opposition.
Last week: W 45-0.
Next up: Saturday at Ole Miss.

13. Michigan State (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten, 1-1 ATS)
The Spartans are out for blood this weekend as they look to avenge their loss to Notre Dame last season.
Last week: W 41-7 vs. Central Michigan.
Next up: Saturday vs. Notre Dame.

14. Kansas State (2-0, 0-0 Big 12, 2-0 ATS)
One blooper aside, it was a stellar day for Collin Klein and the Wildcats’ offense. They’re getting better.
Last week: W 52-13 vs. Miami (FL).
Next up: Saturday vs. North Texas.

15. Ohio State (2-0, 0-0 Big Ten, 1-1 ATS)
Job done against UCF but the Buckeyes are running short on personnel in the backfield.
Last week: W 31-16 vs. UCF.
Next up: Saturday vs. Cal.

16. Florida State (2-0, 0-0 ACC, 1-1 ATS)
Good riddance Savannah State, the Seminoles delivered a second straight beating to the FCS school. ACC play begins this week.
Last week: W 55-0 vs. Savannah State.
Next up: Saturday vs. Wake Forest.

17. Ohio (2-0, 0-0 MAC, 2-0 ATS)
The Bobcats are inching up the standings but a single loss would end their BCS dream.
Last week: W 51-24 at New Mexico State.
Next up: Saturday at Marshall.

18. BYU (2-0, 1-1 ATS)
The Cougars enter the Holy War as favourites but they won’t forget last year’s licking.
Last week: W 45-13 vs. Weber State.
Next up: Saturday at Utah.

19. Stanford (2-0, 0-0 Pac-12, 1-1 ATS)
That was more like it from the Cardinal. Saturday’s game with USC could define their season.
Last week: W 50-13 vs. Duke.
Next up: Saturday vs. Duke.

20. Notre Dame (2-0, 1-1 ATS)
Notre Dame got out of jail against the Boilermakers, they’ll need to be on another level to compete with the Spartans.
Last week: W 20-17 vs. Purdue.
Next up: Saturday at Michigan State.

21. UCLA (2-0, 0-0 Pac-12, 2-0 ATS)
How about that offense? The Bruins are making their presence felt early. This may not be the high point of the season for UCLA.
Last week: W 36-30 vs. Nebraska
Next up: Saturday vs. Houston

22. Mississippi State (2-0, 1-0 SEC, 2-0 ATS)
Huge win on Saturday against Auburn, puts the Bulldogs in good shape for a big year in the SEC.
Last week: W 28-10 vs. Auburn.
Next up: Saturday vs. Troy

23. Louisville (2-0, 0-0 Big East, 1-1 ATS)
Teddy Bridgewater looks like the real deal for the Cardinals. They’ll be favourites to win the Big East.
Last week: W 35-7 vs. Missouri State.
Next up: Saturday vs. North Carolina.

24. Oregon State (1-0, 0-0 Pac-12, 1-0 ATS)
The Beavers return to the countdown for the first time since pre-season 2010. Welcome back. That was a huge win over Wisconsin.
Last week: W 10-7 vs. Wisconsin.
Next up: September 22 at UCLA.

25. Arizona (2-0, 0-0 Pac-12, 1-1 ATS)
That win over Oklahoma State was enough for the Wildcats to edge out the Sun Devils for the last spot on this week’s Power Rankings.
Last week: W 59-38 vs. Oklahoma State.
Next up: Saturday vs. South Carolina State.

Next Five Out: Arizona State, Baylor, Florida, Tennessee, Utah State.
