England’s pursuit of a second World Cup title enters its biggest test yet on Saturday when the Three Lions meet Norway in the quarterfinals at Miami Stadium.

Thomas Tuchel’s side has found different ways to win throughout the tournament, but Norway arrives with tremendous confidence after eliminating Brazil to reach the last eight for the first time in the nation’s history.

While England entered the tournament among the outright favourites, Norway has embraced the underdog role. Led by Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard, the Scandinavians have already eliminated one global heavyweight and will believe another upset is possible.

England remains the more complete squad on paper, although injuries and suspensions will force Tuchel into a few changes ahead of one of the most anticipated quarterfinals of the tournament.

Norway FIFA World Cup Odds and News

Few expected Norway to reach this stage, but Ståle Solbakken’s squad produced one of the tournament’s signature results in the Round of 16. A disciplined defensive display and two clinical finishes from Erling Haaland sent Brazil crashing out and cemented Norway as the surprise team still standing. Haaland has lived up to his billing throughout the competition, yet Norway’s success has been about far more than its star striker.

Martin Ødegaard has controlled the tempo in midfield, Patrick Berg has quietly shielded the back line, and goalkeeper Ørjan Nyland has made several timely saves in high-pressure situations. The challenge becomes significantly tougher against England, but after eliminating Brazil, confidence inside the Norwegian camp has never been higher.

England FIFA World Cup Odds and News

England has looked every bit like a title contender despite facing adversity in the knockout stage. The Three Lions edged DR Congo in the Round of 32 before surviving a dramatic battle against Mexico, advancing with a 3-2 victory after playing much of the second half with ten men due to Jarell Quansah picking up a red card in the 54th minute.

Jude Bellingham continues to be England’s driving force in midfield, while Harry Kane has once again delivered in the biggest moments. Bukayo Saka has stretched opposing defences throughout the tournament, and Anthony Gordon has added pace and creativity from the left flank, giving Tuchel multiple attacking options.

Norway vs. England Player Odds and Props

  • Harry Kane (ENG) anytime goalscorer (+100): The veteran striker has found the net in four of England’s five matches and will fancy his chances against a Norwegian back line that is facing its toughest attacking opponent of the tournament.
  • Erling Haaland (NOR) 3+ shots (+300): Norway isn’t expected to dominate possession, but nearly every attack runs through Haaland. He has 12 shots on target in four matches and should test Jordan Pickford early and often.

FIFA World Cup 2026 Bracket and Futures

Norway were +200 underdogs to get past Brazil, but they have +1500 odds to win the World Cup. England is tied with Spain and Argentina for the second-shortest odds to win the whole thing at +350. The winner of this quarterfinal will take on the winner of Argentina vs Switzerland.

Norway vs. England Score Prediction

Best bet: England to win & Over 2.5 goals (+170)

Norway deserves enormous credit for knocking out Brazil, but this matchup presents a different challenge. England is deeper across every area of the pitch, controls possession more consistently and has enough defensive discipline to limit the number of clear-cut chances Haaland receives.

England’s ability to dictate possession through Declan Rice and Bellingham should prevent Norway from creating the transitional opportunities that proved so effective against Brazil. Three of England’s four wins and all of Norway’s four victories featured at least three goals, but I expect the English to pull away in the end.
