A full 15-game MLB slate is scheduled for Friday, which will include an Interleague matchup between the Boston Red Sox and New York Met at 7:15 p.m. ET. This game will be played at Citi Field in Queens, New York, and will be broadcast on MLB.TV/Apple TV.

Let’s dive into an overview of the current betting odds, a closer look at both the Red Sox and the Mets, as well as my best bet for Friday’s game.

MLB Betting Odds and Trends

The Mets are surprisingly a small favourite for Game 1 of this weekend series on the MLB odds. As it stands, the Mets are -136 on the moneyline, while the Red Sox are coming back as a +116 underdog.

In terms of the runline, you can bet on the Mets -1.5 at odds of +160, while betting on the Red Sox +1.5 carries odds of -194.

The total for this game has been set at 7.5 runs. You can bet on over 7.5 at odds of -122, while betting on 7.5 total runs has odds of +100.

One trend to keep in mind is that the Red Sox are 6-0 SU in their last six games and 8-2 SU in their last 10 games, yet they are underdogs in this one.

Boston Red Sox

Boston enters this game with a record of 43-48 and is currently in fourth place in the AL East. Despite their record being under .500, the Red Sox are one of the hottest teams in the league right now, having just swept the Chicago White Sox.

Set to start Game 1 of this series against the Mets will be Sonny Gray, who has a record of 10-1 this season and an ERA of 2.61. On top of his already impressive numbers, Gray has also been excellent when pitching on the road. In eight road starts, Gray has posted an ERA of 3.05, having allowed 16 runs (15 earned) over 44.1 innings.

New York Mets

New York enters this game with a record of 40-54 and is currently in last place in the NL East. The Mets are coming off a series win against the Kansas City Royals, in which they won two out of three games. That said, the Mets are still 5-5 in their last 10 games and have been unable to gain much ground on their division.

Heading into Game 1 of this series, the Mets are scheduled to start Nolan McLean, who has a record of 6-5 and an ERA of 3.73. While McLean’s overall numbers have been serviceable, his home numbers have not. In nine home starts, McLean has an ERA of 5.03, allowing 28 runs (27 earned runs) over 48.1 innings.

MLB Prediction: Who Will Win Red Sox vs. Mets?

Simply put, the Mets being favourites in this game feels wrong, especially considering the recent winning streak for the Red Sox and the lack of consistency for the Mets.

Further, Gray has easily been one of the best starting pitchers for the Red Sox this season. That is not to say McLean has not been good for the Mets, but he just has not been consistent when pitching at home – where this game is scheduled to take place.

Taking into account that the Red Sox are in better form and have the better overall starting pitcher, backing the Boston Red Sox to win (+114) by a score of 5-2 will be my best bet for Friday night.
