It’s a battle of European powerhouses on Friday as Spain and Belgium meet in the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Spain has powered their way through the tournament. La Roja hasn’t conceded a goal through five games as they topped Group H before blanking Austria and Portugal in the knockout stage.

A win and two draws was enough for Belgium to win Group G. The Red Devils then secured a thrilling extra time win over Senegal in the Round of 32 before dominating co-host USA in the Round of 16.

Now Spain and Belgium are set to clash in the quarterfinals, with the winner earning the daunting task of a matchup against France in the semifinals.

Spain vs. Belgium

Location: SoFi Stadium, Los Angeles, California

Time: 3 p.m. ET

How to watch in Canada: TSN, TSN+, CTV, Crave

This is Spain’s sixth World Cup quarterfinal and first since they lifted the trophy in South Africa 16 years ago. La Roja’s record run of six straight clean sheets at the World Cup accounts for over 10 hours of game time, while the reigning European champions have won all six major knockout games under coach Luis de la Fuente.

Mikel Merino scored the goal to put Spain through to the quarters, but it’s been Mikel Oyarzabal who has been the pace car throughout the tournament with four goals and one assist. The Real Sociedad forward has stepped up when La Roja needs him most, tallying 23 goals in his last 17 international games.

Belgium is in the final eight of the World Cup for the second time in the last three tournaments, including a third-place finish in 2018 in Russia. Coach Rudi Garcia made a bold move by leaving Kevin De Bruyne, Jeremy Doku and all-time top goal scorer Romelu Lukaku on the bench against the United States, but the strategy worked in a 4-1 dismantling.

It’s likely the last kick at the can for Belgium’s golden generation, with the team now undefeated in 18 straight games. Lukaku is firmly part of that core group and he will likely come off the bench again after scoring the Red Devils’ last goal against the U.S., his 93rd tally for the national team.
