New York Knicks vs. Detroit Pistons Prediction, NBA Odds

The Pistons hit the hardwood searching for their first win on their current four-game home stand after dropping back-to-back decisions to Memphis and Sacramento, but are currently enjoying their first two-game win streak against New York in over five years. The Knicks arrive the Motor City on the heels of Tuesday’s 119-117 loss to the visiting Boston Celtics but can clinch third place in the Eastern Conference standings with a victory on Thursday night.

The Pistons lead the way as 3.5-point favourites on the Thursday NBA odds. The Knicks trail as +135 underdogs on the NBA moneyline and the total is pegged at 228.5.

Knicks vs. Pistons NBA Betting Odds

The Pistons have flipped the script on a losing narrative when facing the Knicks this season. After seeing their recent head-to-head losing streak extended to 16 games with a crushing 128-98 loss in Detroit on November 1, the Pistons rebounded to score an average of 122 points while claiming a pair of victories in the Big Apple, capped by a 124-119 win at Madison Square Garden on January 13. However, overcoming their current slide against the Knicks on home court remains a daunting task. The Pistons have averaged just 95.3 points per game while losing eight straight home dates to the Knicks, with each of their three most recent defeats coming by double-digit margins.

The Pistons have also faltered down the stretch, losing four of five overall, hampering their efforts to overtake Milwaukee in the race for fifth place in the East, and have lost outright in three of seven as home chalk. The Knicks travel to Detroit looking to snap out of a funk that has produced just two wins in six road games, and have covered in just two of eight as road underdogs. However, New York has produced steady overall results for loyal NBA betting fans, covering the spread in eight of their past 10.

New York Knicks

While the Knicks just need one more to assure themselves of third-place int eh conference standings, they will have to earn that victory without key personnel in the lineup. OG Anunoby fell just short of recording his second double-double of the season on Tuesday, tallying 13 points and eight rebounds, but the former Toronto Raptor also suffered a thumb injury that will sideline him on Thursday. Veteran guard Josh Hart is also on the shelf with a knee injury along with Mitchell Robinson. That means a bigger assignment in the paint for Karl-Anthony Towns, who is coming off a 34-point, 14-board performance against Boston that marked the 10th straight game in which he has produced at least a double-double.

Detroit Pistons

Injuries also remain a concern for the Pistons, but help may be on the way. Tobias Harris could be ready to return after missing three games with a heel injury. The veteran big man ranks third on the team with 6.0 rebounds per game and the Pistons have gone 10-2 in their last 12 when he pulls down at least eight boards. Cade Cunningham is also expected to suit up despite battling a nagging knee injury. The former first overall pick piled up 35 points and five assists in Monday’s 127-117 loss to Sacramento and has averaged 28.8 points in his past 12 outings.
