Bruins’ Centre David Krejci Hangs Up Skates for Good

Krejci, 37 years old, arrived in the NHL in 2006. He won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011 alongside Patrice Bergeron. The latter also retired this summer, leaving a gaping hole in the club’s leadership and experience that GM Don Sweeney has tried to fill with signings such as Milan Lucic.

In 1,032 regular season matches Krejci tallied 786 points (231 goals and 555 assists). With regard to his playoff performances, he partook in 160 games and put up 128 points (43 goals and 85 assists). He and Bergeron were the beacons of light for well over a decade in Boston. As it stands, the Bruins will rely on Pavel Zacha and Charlie Coyle as their top two centres.

There was a collective gulp from the moment the Boston Bruins conceded the overtime winner to the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of the first round last spring. Not only had a historically productive campaign come to an end earlier than anticipated – Boston recorded the most points in regular season history with 135 – but there were murmurs that Bergeron could retire. Now with Krejci gone as well, a new era for the franchise begins.
