JJ Redick Interviewed for Toronto Raptors Head Coach Position

The Toronto Raptors’ offseason got off to a dramatic start when the organization announced that Nick Nurse’s services as head coach were no longer needed. Since then, much speculation has surrounded who might be leading the team when the 2023-2024 season gets underway next fall.

We have even written two articles to that effect, one highlighting Ime Udoka’s availability and another regarding former Milwaukee Bucks coach Mike Budenholzer. Becky Hammon’s name has surfaced as well, which would be quite the statement by the Raptors should she be hired.

Redick, 38 years old, spent 21 seasons as a player in the NBA, helping clubs like the Orlando Magic – the franchise that drafted him – the Los Angeles Clippers, and the Philadelphia 76ers. Yes, he was on the team that witnessed Kawhi Leonard’s magical Game 7 buzzer-beater in 2019. He certainly has first-hand experience with what Raptors fans are like when they’re happy!

He currently provides in-studio analysis and colour commentary during NBA games for ESPN. He also co-produces and co-hosts his own podcast, The Old Man and the Three.

As a near-annual playoff team – since 2013 they only missed the playoffs once – Toronto is a tempting landing spot, hence why so many impressive names have been tossed into the hat. It’s a wonderful problem for Masai Ujiri to have.
