Lions vs. Alouettes Labour Day Weekend Prediction: CFL Week 14 Point Spread, Odds
The CFL’s Labour Day Weekend schedule kicks off Friday night in Week 14 with a crossover matchup as the B.C. Lions visit Montreal, the team with the league’s best overall record.
The Alouettes are 4.5-point favourites on the CFL odds with a total of 61.5 points that is the week’s highest.
CFL Odds and Betting
This is the last weekend the CFL has pro football to itself in North America this year with the NFL regular season opener on Wednesday, Sept. 12. The B.C. Lions are tied for third in the West Division on 12 points with Winnipeg but currently win the tiebreaker. Edmonton is two games up in first. Montreal is running away with the East Division on 18 points, eight up on second-place Toronto. The Alouettes are the CFL’s only team unbeaten inside its division (6-0) and at home (6-0). They remain +190 favourites to win the Grey Cup, with the Lions at +650.
Thursday marks the first of two regular-season matchups with the clubs turning right around and facing off again next Saturday at BC Place. The Lions have won six straight in the series, including 21-20 on the road last year on Sean Whyte’s 43-yard field goal to walk it off. Jose Maltos had given Montreal a lead on a 30-yard field goal with 28 seconds remaining.
That improved B.C. to 8-2 in its past 10 in Montreal, with the losses coming in 2019 and 2022. That ’22 victory was Montreal’s last in the series overall.
BC Lions
It’s a short week for the Lions as they were -8.5 on Sunday at winless Ottawa and rolled to a fifth straight victory, 45-24, after trailing 14-3 early on.
The Lions out-rushed the Redblacks a whopping 231 to minus-3 with Zander Horvath carrying 24 times for a career-high 164 yards and a team-record-tying four rushing scores. He is up to 16 total touchdowns on the season, six shy of Cory Philpot’s franchise record set in 1995 and seven behind Milt Stegall’s league record in 2003. Horvath’s 13 rush TDs lead the league.
Jermaine Jackson had four catches for a career-best 128 yards. Nathan Rourke was 22-for-25 for 355 yards and two touchdowns, his fourth straight game with at least 300 yards since returning from injury. He did have two picks but completed his final 17 passes. B.C. was 6-for-6 on red-zone opportunities and forced four Ottawa turnovers.
The under is 4-0 in the Lions’ past four after a win.
Montreal Alouettes
Montreal was -6.5 last Friday at Winnipeg and suffered its first regulation loss of the season, 44-28, to see a seven-game winning streak snapped and a six-game ATS winning streak end. A shocking result considering the Bombers entered having lost three of four. But they recorded 447 of offence against Montreal.
Davis Alexander threw for 257 yards and four touchdowns in the losing effort – three TDs to Tyler Snead and one to Tyson Philpot. The Alouettes finished with a season-low 284 net yards. It was Alexander’s first regular-season start against Winnipeg and just the second loss of his career, falling to 21-2.
Alexander remains the -270 favorite for CFL Most Outstanding Player; he went down with a scary-looking injury in the loss but was able to return.
On Tuesday, the Als signed general manager Danny Maciocia and Jason Maas to two-year contract extensions.
Montreal is 4-0 ATS in its past four at home.
