Montreal Canadiens vs. Florida Panthers Prediction, NHL Odds

The Montreal Canadiens will look to earn a sixth straight head-to-head victory on Tuesday night when they visit the Florida Panthers.

These teams enter Tuesday neck-and-neck in the standings. Montreal sits third in the Atlantic Division, but a Florida win would leapfrog the Panthers over the Canadiens.

Florida is a -135 favourite to win on the NHL odds, with the total set at 6.5.

Canadiens vs. Panthers NHL Betting Odds

It’s been all Montreal in recent head-to-head action. The Habs swept last year’s season series, extending their win streak against the Panthers to five games. The Canadiens’ two road wins against Florida snapped a nine-game losing streak at Amerant Bank Arena in Sunrise.

Both teams have trended toward higher scoring games recently. Montreal has hit the Over in four of their last five road games, while the Panthers have finished above the number in five straight overall.

Looking at the NHL futures board, oddsmakers remain bullish on the back-to-back defending Stanley Cup champs as Florida is +900 to win a third straight Cup. The Canadiens may sit ahead of the Panthers in the standings, but they remain pegged as +6000 Stanley Cup long shots.

Montreal Canadiens

Montreal opened their Florida road trip with a 5-4 shootout loss against Tampa Bay on Sunday. The Habs managed to salvage a point after rallying from 3-0 and 4-1 deficits in the third period. Juraj Slafkovsky remained hot with two goals and an assist for his third straight multi-point game.

Samuel Montembeault is expected to get his first start for the Habs in three weeks. The 29-year-old was loaned to AHL Laval on Dec. 16 for an AHL conditioning stint, going 0-2 with a 2.53 goals-against average and .904 save percentage. It’s been a tough year for Montembeault, who is 5-6-1 with a 3.65 GAA and .857 SV at the NHL level.

Florida Panthers

Despite playing without Matthew Tkachuk and Aleksander Barkov all season, the Panthers continue to keep pace in the tightly packed Eastern Conference standings. They locked up another two points with a 5-3 home win against Washington on Monday, with five players recording multiple points. There’s also hope on the horizon as Tkachuk has begun practicing with the team, although his return date is still unknown.

With this being the second half of a back-to-back for Florida, it will likely be Daniil Tarasov in net on Tuesday. Tarasov hasn’t played since allowing five goals on 30 shots in a 6-2 loss against St. Louis on Dec. 20. The 26-year-old, who has alternated wins and losses over his last six starts, is 4-6-1 with a 2.97 GAA and .900 SV this season.
