Giants vs. Lions Point Spread: NFL Week 12 Odds, Prediction

We have a compelling NFL Week 12 matchup on our hands on Sunday, as the New York Giants head to Detroit to take on the Lions at Ford Field. This game isn’t appealing on paper. The Lions suddenly look quite vulnerable following a pair of poor performances against the Vikings and Eagles in recent weeks. As for New York, the Giants have shown signs of life throughout the season, but this is still one of the worst teams in football, and now, New York is dealing with injuries at multiple key positions heading into this game.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

This is one of the largest spreads on the card this week, as the Giants are 10.5-point underdogs on the NFL odds board against the Lions. Given the offensive firepower that Detroit has, it’s not a surprise that this total sits at 49.5 in this game.

The Giants are 6-5 against the spread this season, while their games are also 5-6 to the Under. On the other side, the Lions are 6-4 against the spread this season, with the Over cashing in five of the 10 Detroit games.

New York Giants

Unlike some of the other bad teams across the NFL, the Giants seem to still have a pulse on offence. QB Jameis Winston provided a bit of a spark in what was ultimately a pretty competitive game against the Packers a week ago. However, Jaxson Dart may be back in this game if he can clear concussion protocol before Sunday.

Either QB should be able to put up points against a mediocre Lions secondary in a game where the Giants should be incentivized to throw the ball in a negative game script.

Detroit Lions

There is plenty to like about this Lions team on paper, and even though Detroit has not performed at its best in recent weeks, this is still a team that possesses a top-five offence in football and should be able to move the ball consistently against a bottom-10 Giants defense.

The Detroit offence has averaged over 30 points per home game since last season, and while that might not continue over into Sunday’s contest, there is a pretty established high floor for Jared Goff and the Lions offence at this point. Look for the Lions to score early and often.

Who Will Win Giants vs. Lions?

Historically, Dan Campbell is not the coach that you want to fade as a significant favourite at home and off a loss, and I can’t see the Lions taking their foot off the gas in a spot where they should be in the lead from the opening quarter. On the other side, I don’t see the Giants keeping up, seeing as this is a team that ranks near the bottom of the NFL in EPA per play and success rate.

All things considered, I am rolling with Detroit to win as significant home favourites in Week 12, and we can expect this to be a solid, mostly convincing victory from the Lions at home. Detroit should win this one 34-20.
