2025 CFL Week 15 Quarterback Injuries: Chad Kelly and McLeod Bethel-Thompson back on active rosters

The Toronto Argonauts and Montreal Alouettes announced some good news entering Week 15 of the CFL season as quarterbacks Chad Kelly and McLeod Bethel-Thompson have each been added to the active roster.

Here’s what we know.

Chad Kelly

The Argos returned from a bye week for practice on Tuesday, with the team announcing Kelly has been removed from the six-game injured list and moved to the active roster. The 2023 Most Outstanding Player, who hasn’t played since suffering a serious broken leg in last year’s East Division Final, practiced without limitations.

Kelly might have to wait before he sees any game action, however, as Nick Arbuckle took first-team reps at Tuesday’s practice.

The 31-year-old Arbuckle is having a career-year after leading Toronto to a Grey Cup victory in place of Kelly last year. Arbuckle leads the CFL with 3,828 passing yards and he is second in passing TDs (23).

The Argonuts are riding a two-game win streak and currently sit third in the East Division with a 4-8 record. They’re back in action on Saturday afternoon, playing host to the Edmonton Elks.

McLeod Bethel-Thompson

The Alouettes have been decimated with quarterback injuries all season, so fans should be happy after the team removed Bethel-Thompson from the six-game injured list.

The 36-year-old took first-team reps at practice on Tuesday. He’s missed the last three games after suffering an elbow injury on Aug. 8.

With Bethel-Thompson, Davis Alexander and Caleb Evans all injured, Montreal has relied on fourth-string QB James Morgan for the last two games. Morgan didn’t top 200 passing yards in either start while throwing for just one touchdown and three interceptions.

The Als are in Saskatchewan to face the league-leading Roughriders on Saturday night. Montreal is trying to snap a five-game losing streak, although they still hold second spot in the East Division with a 5-7 record.
