Cowboys vs. Commanders Point Spread: NFL Week 18 Odds, Prediction

However, they’ll need some help, though. If they can get a win to end the season along with losses from the teams in front of them, they can bubble to the top. The first and most important step though is getting a win over the Washington Commanders. Washington just got eliminated from playoff contention following a tie and three straight losses, to which their head coach later admitted that he didn’t know his team could be eliminated. Will Dallas be able to take advantage of a disheartened Washington team?

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

The Cowboys are currently 1-8 ATS in their past nine games played during the month of January as this franchise has had a lot of trouble in the later part of the regular season and playoffs. However, they are 10-3-1 ATS when going up against a team with a losing overall record. Regarding the total, the over has cashed in five of their last six games overall and four out of their last five against teams in the NFC.

The Commanders have failed to cover four straight games and are 1-5-1 ATS in their last seven against teams with a winning record on the season. As for the total, the under has hit in seven out of their last eight games when coming off an ATS loss. It has also hit in five of their last six games played during the month of January.

Dallas Cowboys

There was some serious worry for the Cowboys a few weeks ago when they narrowly defeated the Houston Texans and choked away the following game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. However, they’ve been rolling through opponents since to get back on track. They knocked off the Philadelphia Eagles to close the gap in the division and then stomped a sinking Tennessee Titans squad last Thursday night. Regardless of the injuries for their opponents, Dallas genuinely looks like a team that could win it all.

It all starts with that run game, which both Tony Pollard and Ezekiel Elliott bolster. Elliott is a strong and physical runner while Pollard can cut and explode off the line of scrimmage with his swiftness. These two are incredibly tough to keep track of throughout the game. Throwing this on top of their talented defense makes them hard to beat.

Washington Commanders

It’s hard to understand what the Commanders were thinking coming into last week’s game. They tied the New York Giants the previous week and lost two straight off the bye week, and then suddenly didn’t know that their playoff lives were at stake. That doesn’t make much sense, regardless of who is the head coach of the team. On top of that, the decision to swap away from Taylor Heinicke in favor of Carson Wentz is an even bigger head-scratcher.

Heinicke didn’t have a good game against the San Francisco 49ers, a top-five defense, but he’s been generally solid for them all year. They benched him in favor of Wentz, then afterward head coach Ron Rivera claimed that he liked what he saw out of Wentz after he subbed in. That was apparently enough to warrant a quarterback change in the most meaningful game of the year. Wentz finished with just 143 yards while tossing three picks. Now that their season is done, it’s going to be interesting to see whether or not we see Heinicke, Wentz, or maybe even rookie Sam Howell. It’s hard to gauge where the Commanders’ heads are at after last week’s debacle.
