The visitors have already locked up first place in the Western Conference at 61 points (18-8-7), fresh off a 5-1 thrashing of Seattle, while Montréal is set to finish last in the Eastern Conference at 26 points (6-19-8) after being eliminated from playoff contention. Montréal are winless in seven matches, a run that includes a penalty shootout loss to CPL side Forge FC in the Canadian Championship final on Oct. 21.

The two sides met twice in September, when Montréal knocked the four-time defending Voyageurs Cup champions out of the semifinals 3-2 on aggregate, so there’s a measure of revenge on the line for Vancouver. Let’s get into my CF Montréal vs Vancouver Whitecaps preview.

CF Montréal vs Vancouver Whitecaps MLS Odds and Betting Trends

The market makes Vancouver clear favourites, even on the road. The Whitecaps are -155 on the three-way money line, the draw sits at +320, and Montréal are +330 underdogs. The Over/Under is 3.5 goals, with the Over at even money (+100) and the Under at -125.

That’s a high total, but it reflects how these teams have played. Vancouver lead MLS in expected goals (70.3), have scored 72 times and have put nine past their last two opponents. Montréal have conceded 67 goals, just over two per match, including a 4-0 loss at Charlotte late last month. The one caution for Whitecaps backers is that Vancouver have dropped points in four of their last five road league matches.

Vancouver Whitecaps

Brian White leads the line with 20 goals, good for third in MLS behind Lionel Messi and Petar Musa, and his brace against Seattle made him the first player in the club’s MLS era to reach 100 goals for Vancouver. He sits two goals shy of Camilo Sanvezzo’s club single-season MLS record of 22. Ryan Gauld added a goal and two assists against the Sounders, and fullback Édier Ocampo has a career-best 12 assists, giving Jesper Sørensen’s side plenty of ways to create.

The concern for Vancouver is motivation rather than talent. With the top seed already clinched, Sørensen spoke about balancing this match against the longer term, and he doesn’t expect Andrés Cubas or Emmanuel Sabbi to travel. Thomas Müller could return if he’s ready, and White made it clear the squad is “out to get three points” regardless.

CF Montréal

Montréal’s season has been a struggle from start to finish. Marco Donadel was replaced by interim boss Philippe Eullaffroy in April, and the club has not won an MLS match since Sept. 27 when they beat Cincinnati 3-1. Prince Owusu has carried the attack with 15 MLS goals, but he is ruled out with a lower-body injury, along with Jalen Neal, Bode Hidalgo, and Brayan Ceballos, leaving Daniel Ríos and Alexis Sánchez to provide the goals.

The home form offers little hope either. Montréal have lost four of their last five domestic home matches and have been shut out in six home games this season, and goalkeeper Thomas Gillier is doubtful with a back issue. They did beat Vancouver 2-1 here in September, but Owusu scored both goals that night, and he will not be on the pitch this time.

MLS Prediction: Who Will Win CF Montréal vs Vancouver Whitecaps?

Best bet: Vancouver Whitecaps Money Line (-155)

Vancouver has every reason to treat this as a tune-up, but White’s record chase and the chance to avenge September’s cup exit should keep the visitors sharp. Montréal is without their only consistent goal threat and may be missing their starting goalkeeper, while Vancouver have the league’s most dangerous attack measured by expected goals. Even with some rotation, the gap in quality is too wide, and the Whitecaps can be expected to pull away after halftime.

Final score prediction: CF Montréal 1 | Vancouver Whitecaps 3
