Los Angeles Kings vs. Edmonton Oilers Game 2 Prediction, NHL Odds

The Los Angeles Kings have stolen home-ice advantage in their first-round Western Conference playoff series against Edmonton, but the Oilers are heavy home favourites to win on the NHL odds to tie things up in Game 2 on Wednesday.

Kings vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds

The first night of the Stanley Cup playoffs was interesting because both Eastern Conference home teams won in blowouts and both Western Conference road teams pulled upsets.

With the Kings up 1-0, they are now -105 on the series line (were +190) and the Oilers -116 (were -250). On the series leader after Game 3, Los Angeles is -238 and Edmonton +190. On the series exact result, the Oilers in seven is a +330 favourite, followed by Oilers in six at +400 and Kings in six at +450. That it ends in six games is a +160 favourite and a sweep is +999.

To win the West, Edmonton is +800 and Los Angeles +1700.

Los Angeles Kings

Centre Phillip Danault was the No. 1 star for the Kings in their 4-3 upset victory Monday as he scored the game-winner at 14:46 of the third.  He also added an assist and was terrific in the face-off circle. Trevor Moore, Alex Iafallo and Brendan Lemieux also scored. Moore added two assists.

Two-time Stanley Cup champion Jonathan Quick had 36 saves in his 47th career playoff win, which tied Ron Hextall for 24th place on the NHL’s all-time list. It was Quick’s 24th career postseason road victory, moving within one of Tom Barrasso for the most in NHL history by a U.S.-born goaltender. Winger Viktor Arvidsson (undisclosed injury) didn’t play. He had 20 goals and 29 assists this year. The Kings are 4-1 in their past five after a win.

Edmonton Oilers

Not often a team will lose in the playoffs when it scores twice on the power play and doesn’t allow a goal on the man advantage, but that’s what happened to the Oilers on Monday. Edmonton’s power-play unit was 2-for-4 and its penalty kill 4-for-4. The Oilers also outshot the Kings 39-35 but never led. Connor McDavid, Kailer Yamamoto and Leon Draisaitl had the goals, with Draisaitl tying it 3-3 about midway through the second.

Mike Smith had won nine straight starts in April but wasn’t overly sharp, and his giveaway led to the game-winning goal. Defenceman Darnell Nurse played after missing the last four games of the regular season with a lower-body injury and had an assist in 20:27. Remember, the Oilers were favoured in the first round of last year’s playoff series vs. Winnipeg but were swept. Edmonton is 0-7 in its past seven playoff games as a favourite.
