The 96th MLB All-Star Game heads to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia on Tuesday night, with the National League serving as the home team in front of what should be an electric Phillies-heavy crowd.

While All-Star games can be difficult to handicap, this year’s matchup feels a little different. Several marquee American League stars, including Aaron Judge, are unavailable, while the National League enters with superior lineup depth, home-field advantage and plenty of hometown energy behind six Phillies representatives.

Add in the financial incentive for players on the winning side, and this should be a far more competitive exhibition than many expect.

The National League is a -140 favourite to win on the MLB odds, with the total set at 7.5.

American League vs. National League MLB All-Star Game Odds and Betting Trends

The American League leads the National League 7-3 over the last 10 MLB All-Star games. The NL has won two of the last three, however. This stretch features a heavy run of American League dominance, a canceled game in 2020 due to COVID-19, and a historic tiebreaker swing-off home run derby to decide the 2025 matchup.

If the game is tied after nine innings, there are no extra innings. Instead, each league sends three hitters to a three-round home run competition to determine the winner, making every run even more valuable throughout the game.

American League

The American League still boasts plenty of star power. Yordan Alvarez enters as arguably the hottest pure hitter in baseball, while Bobby Witt Jr., Junior Caminero and hometown favourite Mike Trout provide plenty of firepower.

Toronto’s Dylan Cease gets the start after finishing the first half on a dominant run, tossing 15 consecutive scoreless innings while striking out 20 over his final two starts. However, the AL roster feels thinner than usual after losing Judge and several other big names, putting even more pressure on its younger stars to deliver.

National League

Cristopher Sánchez gets the honour of starting in front of the home crowd despite one poor outing before the break, and the NL lineup remains stacked from top to bottom. Juan Soto, Freddie Freeman, Bryce Harper, Kyle Schwarber, CJ Abrams and James Wood give opposing pitchers very few places to breathe.

Then there’s the bench. Pete Crow-Armstrong has arguably been baseball’s best player since June, raising his average from .237 at the end of May to .291 entering the break while adding 21 home runs and 24 stolen bases. Whether it’s a spectacular defensive play, elite base-running or a clutch swing, he feels destined to make an impact.

MLB All-Star Game Prediction: Who Will Win American League vs. National League?

The National League is the deeper club offensively. They’ll bat last, they’ll enjoy a massive home-field atmosphere in Philadelphia, and I trust their lineup depth more once both managers empty the benches. The American League certainly has enough talent to win, but the NL simply has more ways to manufacture runs throughout the game.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if Crow-Armstrong produces one of the defining moments of the night, whether that’s with his glove, his legs or his bat.

Best Bet: National League -1.5 (+150)

Final Score Prediction: National League 5, American League 3
