Avalanche vs. Sharks Game 7 Prediction: NHL Playoffs Betting Odds
The last time Colorado played a Game 7 was in 2014, when they lost to the Minnesota Wild in the first round of the playoffs.
Avalanche vs. Sharks Stanley Cup Playoffs Betting Analysis
The Avs managed a Game 6 win on Monday night to bring this series to a deciding Game 7 on Wednesday night at the SAP Center in San Jose.
Colorado get a lot of help from their secondary in that game, with two goals from J.T. Compher and one from Tyson Jost. Gabriel Landeskog got the win with an overtime goal. The Sharks got goals from two defenseman when Marc-Edouard Vlasic got two and Brent Burns tied it up after J.T. Compher scored the first of his two goals.
San Jose has eliminated the Avs in their previous two playoff meetings. Sports Interaction bettors are siding heavily with the home side for Game 7, with 73% of bets at the point of this writing backing the Sharks.
Colorado Avalanche
Despite Gabriel Landeskog’s game winning goal on Monday, the Sharks have been somewhat successful in trying to keep the power trio of Landeskog, Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen off the scoreboards. Those three will need to solve San Jose’s defense tonight if they want the win. Coach Jared Bednar wants better production from his defenders as they head into enemy territory for the last game of the series.
“We’ve got to go in and be willing to try to win that game 1-0 and defend a little bit better than we did at times last night,” he said. “I’ll tell you this. It’s not going to be that much different for us than it was last night. It’s another elimination game for us. It’s a tough building to go into. I felt their team had more desperation than us in Game 5 (the Sharks won 2-1). Maybe we had a bit of an edge there last night. So now you’re going to see both teams playing desperate hockey, so it should be a real fun one.”
San Jose Sharks
Looking at regular season records, it’s almost surprising that the Sharks have been forced into a Game 7 in the second round of the playoffs. San Jose finished second in the Pacific Division with 101 points, whereas Colorado shimmied into the second wild card spot with a last-minute burst during the regular season. But here they are, in their second game 7 of this postseason.
In the first round, San Jose pulled off a huge comeback after facing elimination in their series against the Vegas Golden Knights. In the third period of that Game 7, the Sharks came back from 3-0 deficit for a hard-fought 5-4 overtime win.
The Sharks have had to play this entire second round without captain Joe Pavelski, who is a game day decision for tonight.
