Winnipeg Jets vs. Carolina Hurricanes Prediction, NHL Odds
The situation is a bit more tenuous for the Jets considering they’re now just two games above .500 at 12-10, compared to the Hurricanes’ 14-7-2.
The hockey world knows the ceilings of these teams. That is especially true in the regular season. They have each shown it year after year for nearly a decade with impressive consistency. Despite recent struggles, the pure matchup between these teams and a bit of added pressure make for a great hockey game.
Jets vs. Hurricanes NHL Betting Odds
Winnipeg is 3-7 in its last 10 games, which includes a loss to Carolina. The Jets’ average loss during this slump is by two goals. With that, they are now 11-11 on the puck line, including 4-7 on the road. Interestingly enough, the Hurricanes have been a bit volatile themselves lately.
Carolina has either scored or allowed at least four goals in 10 out of its last 11 games. With that, games totals have been going over, specifically at home. On the NHL odds board, the over is 13-9-1 in Carolina games this year, including 8-1-1 at home. Given the recent injury to Winnipeg goalie, Connor Hellebuyck, Carolina has a good chance to produce and continue pushing game totals.
Winnipeg Jets
As alluded, the Jets placed their star goaltender on the Injured Reserve this week. This obviously comes at a bad time considering their cold streak. It will be much tougher to break out of this slump and keep pace in the Western Conference without their three-time Vezina winning goaltender.
The good news for Winnipeg is their top performing forwards and defencemen are still healthy and, for the most part, producing. The Jets have two forwards, Mark Scheifele and Kyle Connor, and a defenceman, Josh Morrissey, that average over a point per game. They also have largely the same roster that led them to a phenomenal season last year. As long as the top players are producing like top players, the Jets will stay in the race.
Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes have not been quite as out of sorts as the Jets, but it has not been as smooth as they would prefer, either. Carolina is 3-3-2 in its last 8 contests. To reiterate, one of those three wins was in a great game over the Jets. If the Hurricanes want to get back to a more consistent form, they may give a little extra to beat a team that they know is good – though one they know they can beat.
Hellebuyck’s absence could really wreak havoc in this game once again. In Carolina’s win over Winnipeg last week, they were able to muster up offense against the Jets’ new starting goaltender, Eric Comrie. Comrie is serviceable, but he is no Hellebuyck, and Carolina scores the fourth-most goals per game in the NHL. This could be another high-scoring affair.
NHL Prediction: Who Will Win Jets vs. Hurricanes?
There is too much going for the Hurricanes to fade them in this spot. The Jets’ poor recent form and being without a difference-making goaltender is difficult to overlook.
Winnipeg is very good. Even with this adversity, they could beat several teams in the NHL, but Carolina is a different beast. Winnipeg really has a challenge on its hands. The Hurricanes have a good chance to produce again, but don’t expect the Jets to roll over. This has the makings of another high-scoring game in a 5-3 Carolina win.
