Alouettes vs. Elks Prediction: CFL Week 3 Point Spread, Odds
The Alouettes rolled to a dominating 39-18 win in Ottawa last week to improve to 2-0-0 and enter Week 3 as the lone team in the CFL East Division to record a win so far this season. The Elks enjoyed an early-season bye last week after opening their campaign with a 31-14 loss in BC and will be aiming to claim their fourth victory in six overall home dates.
The Alouettes lead the way as 6.5-point road favourites on the CFL Week 3 odds. The Elks trail as +225 underdogs on the CFL moneyline and the total for Thuesday’s matchup is pegged at 48.5.
CFL Odds and Betting
Thursday’s clash is the first of two scheduled matchups between these teams this season. The Alouettes arrive in Edmonton riding a four-game win streak versus the Elks and have also tallied wins in four straight visits to Commonwealth Stadium.
In addition to lifting them to the top of the East standings, the Als’ hot start has also vaulted them to the top of the Grey Cup odds, where they narrowly edge out Saskatchewan as +350 favourites.
With their two victories coming by an average margin of 19.5 points, the Alouettes have also been a solid bet in the early going. However, Montreal still has work to do to reverse a slide on the road that started last September, with the squad compiling a middling 2-2-1 SU record while paying out against the spread just twice over that stretch.
The Elks aim to rebound from their Week 1 loss to the Lions and build on a promising finish to last season, which they closed out on a promising 7-4-0 run.
However, the Elks have been a massive disappointment when pegged home dogs by six or more points, losing outright in 13 straight while going 4-9 ATS.
Montreal Alouettes
For the second week in a row, the Alouettes slammed the door early, limiting the Ottawa RedBlacks to just three points before halftime on their way to a 39-18 win. Overall, the Als have surrendered just six total first-half points during their 2-0-0 start, with the three total touchdowns they have allowed coming in garbage time while leading my double-digit margins.
Quarterback Davis Alexander has been steady in his debut as Montreal’s starting quarterback. Alexander tossed for 344 yards and his second touchdown of the season last week, but also tossed his second pick in as many games. The ground game also contributed with both Tyler Snead and Austin Mack topping 100 rushing yards. However, it was kicker Jose Maltos who accounted for more than half the Als’ scoring, splitting the uprights for six field goals and three extra points.
Edmonton Elks
An early off week has given the Elks time to figure out what went wrong in their 31-14 loss to BC in Week 1. The Elks seized a narrow 7-3 halftime lead before crumbling after the break while allowing the Lions to score majors on their first four possessions after the break to put things out of reach.
Quarterback Tre Ford struggled throughout the much-hyped clash with fellow Canadian pivot Nathan Rourke, connecting on 18 of 27 attempts for just 178 yards, including just 75 yards in the first half, along with no TDs, and one pick. However, Ford did emerge as the Elks’ top rusher with 54 yards on six carries while veteran backup Cody Fajardo, who started 13 games for Montreal last season, ran for the team’s two scores on the night and is a solid +100 bet on the CFL player props to score a touchdown anytime against his former teammates on Thursday night.
