Giants vs. Eagles Point Spread: NFL Divisional Playoffs Odds, Prediction

New York pursued its magical season on Wild Card weekend. They not only won a playoff game but exacted a measure of revenge on the Vikings, who had defeated them in the regular season.

A lot of chalk is being written for Philly, with the Eagles standing tall as -7.5 favourites on the NFL odds. Furthermore, the over-under is set at 48.0 points.

NFL Point Spread and Betting Analysis

There is no shortage of history between these two immensely proud franchises. New York and Philadelphia have met four times when the stakes were at their highest, although the most recent dates all the way back to 2009. The G-Men got the better of the Eagles on the first two occasions, the 1981 Wild Card and the 2001 Divisional. Since then, Philly has tied the series 2-2. Moreover, the victory in the Divisional round in 2009 saw them put an end to New York’s reign as defending Super Bowl champions.

In the regular season, Nick Sirianni’s Eagles took care of business on both occasions. The Week 18 tilt was necessary for Philly insofar as a win meant solidifying the number one seed in the NFC. The Giants had little to play for and therefore inserted the B-team, who put up a decent fight in a 22-16 defeat. The Week 14 contest is of much greater interest since both sides were jostling for playoff positioning. The Eagles thumped their rivals 48-22, with the Jalen Hurts-led offence behaving like a wrecking ball against what had been a stout Giants defence. They collectively rushed for a stunning 253 yards on the day.

New York Giants

Brian Daboll’s unit partook in one of the more exciting matches of Wild Card weekend, which is saying something given the quality of the games on display.

The 34-31 win in Minnesota showcased a little bit of what fans have come to expect from this edition of the Giants, as well as some surprises. For one, New York does not fret in close games, and they showed poise after going down early 7-0. More importantly, they didn’t allow the game to slip away when the Vikings fought back to tie the score after trailing 24-14. Lastly, their 142 yards on the ground (and two TDs for Saquon Barkley) felt like business as usual.

Surprisingly, Daniel Jones had an excellent game too, throwing for 301 yards, tossing for 1.8 yards more per pass than in the regular season. WR Isaiah Hodgins benefitted the most from his quarterback’s play, catching eight passes for 105 yards and one score.

WR Isaiah Hodgins is listed as Questionable as of Wednesday.

Philadelphia Eagles

Waiting in the wings – in their nest, if you will – are the Eagles. The best team in the NFC, as per the standings, gets ready to finally shine on the playoff stage. The last time the City of Brotherly Love’s side was the number one ranked unit in the conference (2017), it won the Super Bowl. Furthermore, it did so with its backup QB, Nick Foles, so expectations are high with Jalen Hurts.

For good reason at that. Hurts was sensational prior to missing a few late games due to injury. He improved his passing numbers tremendously from 2021, finishing 10h overall with 3,701 through the air. While 22 passing TDs won’t wow anybody, just as essential are his six interceptions. In essence, he doesn’t commit many mistakes. WRs A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith are constant threats, as is the team’s ability to run the ball under any circumstances. Philly ran for the fifth most yards per game, and that’s including two games Gardner Minshew started.

DE Robert Quinn is listed as Questionable as of Wednesday.
