Argonauts vs. RedBlacks Prediction: CFL Week 21 Point Spread, Odds
Both teams will be trying out a number of new players in this game, one prepping for a hopeful playoff run, the other looking at next season. Sports Interaction oddsmakers have made the RedBlacks 7-point favourites in this contest.
Betting Analysis
If this game is anything like the last one these two teams played, there could be many points scored. Back in early August, the RedBlacks seemed to be in control of the game up by 24 points on the Argos, but quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson rallied the Boatmen for 35 second half points in a 42-41 win. Keep in mind both teams have nothing to play for in the standings, and backups will be used. The Argos are 7-19 against the spread in their last 26 Friday games, and the RedBlacks have played well in November dating back to the last two years they are 6-2 ATS in their last eight games in November.
Toronto Argonauts
It is hard to believe that the Argos are the defending Grey Cup Champions, but it is there forever in the record books, and cannot be changed. The franchise wishes this season could be changed, especially hitting rock bottom this past weekend in a 40-10 loss to the Alouettes, the only team lower than them in the standings (at the time). Canadian Receiver Llevi Noel was the team’s best player in the loss, grabbing eight catches for 105 yards. It was by far his best game of the season.
The Boatmen will conclude their 2018 regular season with a trip to Ottawa looking for their first road win of the season. At 0-8 they are the only CFL team that has not won at least a game on the road. As the team heads into the off season, expect the franchise to continue to audition new players, giving them an opportunity to see what talent to bring back next season.
Ottawa RedBlacks
The RedBlacks have picked the right time to go on a five game winning streak entering the last game of the regular season. With back to back wins against the Tiger-cats, the RedBlacks have clinched first place in the East, they get a first round bye, and are just one win away from their third Grey Cup appearance in the past four years. In this game with the Argos they will likely play their starters for half a game, then re-evaluate at the half. In their last game, a 30-13 win versus the Tiger-Cats, quarterback Trevor Harris threw for 267 yards and three touchdowns. He has cemented himself as a favourite to be the East division nominate for Most Outstanding player.
His teammate Brad Sinopoli will also get consideration especially after setting a new CFL record. Sinopoli caught seven balls for 56 yards to break Ben Cahoon’s record for most catches in a season by a Canadian (112 receptions in 2003). The two-time Grey Cup champion is only the seventh Canadian to reach the 100-catch plateau in a season. Look for backup quarterback Dominique Davis to get the majority of snaps in this final regular season contest. Davis has started a grand total of zero games this season.
