Philadelphia Flyers vs. Toronto Maple Leafs Prediction, NHL Odds
The Leafs had a two-goal lead over the struggling Nashville Predators after 20 minutes, before allowing the Preds to score five straight unanswered goals.
Philly has been struggling big time lately, winning just one of their past 10 games, dropping them to last in the Metropolitan Division.
The Leafs are a heavy favourite to win Tuesday night, sitting at -250 on the NHL odds. The game is currently at an even 6.0 goals. The puck will drop from the Scotiabank Arena in downtown Toronto at 7 p.m. ET.
Flyers vs. Maple Leafs NHL Betting Odds
The Flyers have only beaten the Leafs once in their past 10 meetings, including two one-goal losses this year. They will wrap up their season series on Tuesday night, and the Flyers will get a shot at covering the spread in four straight meetings. Roughly 90 per cent of the early moneyline bets have gone the way of the Maple Leafs, while 66 per cent of the bettors are taking this one to hit UNDER on the six-goal total.
Philadelphia has lost five straight games, getting outscored 20-8 and having been shut out twice over that span. They are 35-37 against the spread this season, covering three times over their past 10 games. Flyers goaltending has been horrible all season, as they rank fifth-worst in goals-against average at 3.39 on the campaign. Their offence has been even worse over their past 10 games, scoring just 1.6 goals per game.
Three of Toronto’s past four games have hit the OVER, bumping their record on the OVER/UNDER to 34-32-4 on the season. Their three-game win streak saw them cover the spread in each contest before that embarrassing loss in Nashville on Saturday. The Leafs have scored first in seven straight outings and are favoured to do it again Tuesday versus the Flyers on our NHL Specials Board at -178.
Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers took another loss on Sunday, extending their losing streak to five games. This one stung a bit more than the previous losses, dropping the game 7-4 to the Chicago Blackhawks, who had dropped their previous seven games before the meeting.
Philly opened the scoring on a goal from defenceman Jamie Drysdale (6th) early in the first, but fell behind 2-1 just four minutes later. Back-to-back goals from Travis Sanheim (7th) and Bobby Brink (11th) put the team back ahead, but the Hawks answered to even it headed into the second. Chicago outscored the Flyers 3-1 in the middle frame, while adding another in the third for a 7-4 final.
The only positive the Flyers have had over their current skid is their best players have been performing as they should. Matvei Michkov and Travis Konecny each had three points in their past two games, while Sean Couturier is riding a three-game point streak, picking up four points.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs have been consistently inconsistent since the calendar switched to March, winning just five of their 11 games this month. Only one of those wins was by more than a single goal.
The inconsistency was proven once again on Saturday night, as the Leafs blew a 2-0 lead after the first period to the Nashville Predators, who had lost four straight entering the game. John Tavares (30th) and Mitch Marner (22nd) scored for the Leafs before the Preds went on to score five unanswered goals in the second and third. Joseph Woll got the start in goal for Toronto, allowing four goals on 31 shots, snapping his streak of three consecutive wins.
The loss allowed the Florida Panthers to pass Toronto atop the Atlantic Division standings. Toronto is in danger of slipping down to third place with the Tampa Bay Lightning just two points behind them. Finishing third would mean they will lose home-ice advantage for most of the postseason.
