Blue Jackets vs. Oilers NHL Betting Odds
Light night in the NHL on Monday with only four games and Edmonton as the only team from Canada in action. Perhaps a little extra motivation for this one to snap that three-game losing streak with a very tough seven-game road trip through the Eastern Conference up next that is headlined by a Stanley Cup Finals rematch at Florida on Nov. 22.
Columbus is under second-year coach Dean Evason (born in Manitoba) and has missed the playoffs five straight years. That seems likely to continue with the club at the bottom of the Metropolitan Division. These teams have split the past two season series, each winning both at home. Connor McDavid (4A) led the Oilers with four points in the 2024-25 campaign, while Leon Draisaitl, Zach Hyman and Mattias Ekholm each had two goals. Stuart Skinner allowed six goals in losing his start, while Calvin Pickard gave up three in winning his.
Cole Sillinger (2G, 3A) led Columbus with five points in the series, and Adam Fantilli (1G, 2A) had three. Fantilli is a huge part of the team’s future as the former No. 3 overall pick in the 2023 draft. In net, Daniil Tarasov gave up six goals in losing his start, while Elvis Merzļikins surrendered one in winning his.
Edmonton is 5-1 in the past six home meetings.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus is 0-3 on this current five-game road trip after a 4-3 loss in Vancouver on Saturday as Brock Boeser broke a tie on a partial breakaway with 5:45 left. Kirill Marchenko had a big night in the loss with two goals and an assist to extend his points streak to seven games. He leads the team with eight goals and 16 points and is plus-10. Adam Fantilli had two assists, but the Ontario native remains two goals shy from tying Ryan Johansen (47) for the third-most goals by a Blue Jackets player before age 22. Rick Nash (89) tops the list. Fantilli won’t be 22 until next October. Elvis Merzlikins started in net Saturday, and it’s not completely clear if he will go tonight in the front of a back-to-back or if Jet Greaves will — but they have been rotating by the game, so it should be Greaves’ turn. He is 1-2-0 with a 3.05 GAA and .905 save percentage in three road starts this year.
Edmonton Oilers
Expect the Oilers to come out flying after being embarrassed 9-1 on home ice by Colorado on Saturday night in a third straight loss and tying the biggest margin of defeat on home ice in team history. It was only the second time in Avalanche history they scored nine in a road game and it was the first time ever they won on the road by at least eight goals. Connor McDavid provided the only bright spot by scoring his 89th career power-play goal to tie Mark Messier for sixth most in Oilers history. It marked the fifth straight game the Oilers scored on the power play. Not clear who starts this one in net after Stuart Skinner allowed four goals on 13 shots in that loss before being replaced by Calvin Pickard, who gave up five goals on 21 shots. Forwards Zach Hyman and Mattias Janmark are both very close to returning from injury – sounds like Janmark may well do so Monday. The 32-year-old hasn’t played this season and had 18 points last year in 80 games. The over is 5-2 in the Oilers’ past seven.
