Alouettes vs. Argonauts Prediction: CFL Week 17 Point Spread, Odds
The Alouettes snapped a two-game winless streak with last weekend’s 24-12 win in Calgary and now enjoy a six-point lead over second-place Ottawa with just four games remaining on their regular season schedule. The Argonauts saw their bid to lock up third place in the divisional standings fall short in last weekend’s 33-31 loss to the visiting Hamilton Tiger-Cats and have now lost three of their past four, with each of those defeats coming while perched as betting favourites.
The Alouettes arrive in Toronto perched as narrow 1.5-point favourites on the CFL Week 17 odds. The Argonauts trail as a +110 bet on the CFL moneyline, and the total for Saturday’s contest is pegged at 51.5.
CFL Week 17 Odds and Betting
Saturday night’s matchup between these CFL East rivals marks their third and final meeting of the regular season. The Argonauts rolled to a 37-18 victory when they visited Montreal in Week 6, extending a trend that has seen the road team emerge victorious in each of their past four clashes. That run includes the Als’ 38-17 win over the Argos at BMO Field in last season’s CFL East final. The Alouettes have also covered in each of their past three head-to-head meetings. Overall, Montreal is undefeated in 11 straight road games, going 9-2 against the spread over that stretch including four outright victories as betting underdogs. The Argos have also produced steady results on home turf, avoiding consecutive defeats during an impressive 17-4 run, but have covered just twice in their past six home dates.
Montreal Alouettes
The Alouettes turned in yet another stingy performance in last weekend’s 21-12 win over Ottawa. Montreal seized a 20-6 lead by halftime and allowed the RedBlacks to score their only touchdown of the game during garbage time. Overall, the Als have surrendered just two total touchdowns their current 1-0-1 run and have surrendered just 17.6 points per game while going 6-0-1 on the road this season. Not surprisingly, the UNDER has also paid out in six of Montreal’s seven road dates with the squad going 5-2 against the spread over that stretch. While stout defensive play is welcome, the Als could use greater offensive production from Cody Fajadro. The veteran pivot failed to find the end zone in each of the past two games and has tallied just five total scoring passes over his past five game appearances.
Toronto Argonauts
The Argonauts can also take an enormous step towards clinching a playoff spot with a win on Saturday night. The Boatmen enter CFL Week 17 enjoying a four-point lead over fourth-place Hamilton with four games remaining. However, this squad has struggled to produce consistent results, both on the scoreboard and at the sportsbook. Losers in three of four, Toronto has also covered just once in five games overall. Defence has become a concern with the squad surrendering over 30 points per game during a 1-3 slide. That adds to pressure on quarterback Chad Kelly, who has struggled to regain his CFL Most Outstanding Player form since getting a late start to the season. Kelly compiled 255 passing yards while finding the end zone just once in last week’s loss to Hamilton. Overall, Kelly has averaged just 261.5 passing yards over the past two games, but sports attract -110 odds on the CFL player props to score a touchdown in a third straight game.
