Euro 2016 Group B Betting Odds and Prediction

Group B is where we find England, one of the tournament favorites and the only team with a 100% record in qualifying. There’s a great deal of excitement brewing for their match against Wales, who are currently listed at +7900 for the full tournament, but with whom the English team has a long-standing rivalry. Slovakia, Russia and Wales all gave excellent performances in the qualifying and finished as runners-up, so this might not be the cake walk for England that first glance suggests. Each team will play three group stage matches, one against each team in their group. After three games, the top two teams in each group will advance.

Player to Watch: Striker Harry Kane was the top ranked forward during the 2015-16 Premier League season, scoring 59 goals in all competitions for Tottenham over two seasons.

England certainly made a statement in the qualifying, winning 10 out of 10 matches starting with a 2-0 win against rivals Switzerland. Their goal difference of +28 was unrivaled anywhere across Europe. The big question for England will be whether or not they start a declining Wayne Rooney, who broke the all-time scoring record during the qualifiers but who has long been eclipsed by younger teammates, including Harry Kane, Dele Alli, Ross Barkley, John Stones, and Raheem Sterling.

Player to Watch: Alan Dzagoev, an attacking midfielder who is a consistent playmaker and goal scorer.

This Russian team won their last four qualifying games with A 6-2-2 record and a plus-16 goal differential, resulting in a 20-point run. This Russian team will be feeling the pressure from the fans at home to do well considering that the next World Cup will take place in their home country. The last time they finished as a semifinalist was in the 2008 tournament, losing to Spain. They have been the runners-up in the Euro three times.

Player to Watch: Marek Hamsik is the core player in this squad and a playmaker that will play a role if this team advances.

This is their first time in the European Championships as Slovakia, since they previously participated as Czechoslovakia. Slovakia made headlines and surprised many when they beat the current champions Spain at home during the qualifying and they could definitely ride that momentum and surprise everyone as the +14900 underdog of Group B.

This is the first Euro Cup for Wales, a team that hasn’t qualified for a major tournament since they played at the World Cup finals in 1958. Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale was the difference maker for his team, scoring seven goals to propel his team into the tournament. Their +7900 odds indicate that the team might not have enough beyond Bale to take them beyond this stage.
