Euro 2016 Group D Betting Odds and Predictions

Defending Euro champions Spain will come out of Group D along with three Eastern European teams. Current odds suggest that Croatia is their strongest competition to win the group, but both the Czech Republic and Turkey qualified for the final tournament outright, so they cannot be discounted as potential upsetters. Every team in this group will play a total of three group stage games, one against each member in Group D. The top two teams in each group will advance.

Spain

Euro 2016 odds: +550

FIFA Ranking: 3

All-time Records v. Group Members:
Record against Croatia: W3 – D1 – L1
Record against Czech Republic: W3 – D1 – L0
Record against Turkey: W5 – D4 – L1

Player to Watch: Andres Iniesta. In regards to his star midfielder, head coach Vicente del Bosque says that Iniesta is “technically perfect and he plays so naturally, almost without effort. It’s like when Roger Federer plays tennis, he barely sweats.”

Although Spain struggled in the 2014 World Cup, they seem to do very well in the Euro Cup, being the defending champions since 2008. They finished with nine wins during the qualifying rounds, losing just once to Slovakia, which was their first defeat in international competition in ten years.

Croatia

Euro 2016 Odds: +2900

FIFA Ranking: 18

All-time Records v. Group Members:
Record against Czech Republic: W1 – D1 – L0
Record against Spain: W1 – D1 – L3
Record against Turkey: W2 – D4 – L0

Player to Watch: Alen Halilovic, their 19-year-old attacking midfielder, has been dubbed the “new Messi.”

This is the fifth time that Croatia has qualified from six campaigns since their independence from Yugoslavia in 1991, and they have twice made the quarter-finals. This team has an impressive roster of veteran players like Modric, Rakitic, Perisic and Mandzukic, and if those core players light up, they could very well be in a position for a quarter-final place.

Czech Republic

Euro 2016 Odds:+7900

FIFA Ranking: 26

All-time Records v. Group Members:
Record against Croatia: W0 – D1 – L1
Record against Spain: W0 – D1 – L3
Record against Turkey: W5 – D1 – L3

Player to Watch: Petr Cech has been officially named Czech Footballer of the Year seven times in the past decade.

Since Spain is considered very likely to progress from this stage, and with a fierce competition for second to be set between rivals Croatia and Turkey, it will take a dynamite showing from the Czech team to get past this first Group stage. To their credit, they finished first in their qualifying group in order to advance to the Euro Cup this year, which will be their sixth appearance.

Turkey

Euro 2016 Odds: +7900

FIFA Ranking: 21

All-time Records v. Group Members:
Record against Croatia: W0 – D4 – L2
Record against Czech Republic: W3 – D1 – L5
Record against Spain: W1 – D4 – L5

Player to Watch: Oguzhan Ozyakup is a strong, attacking midfielder who was a former Arsenal trainee and 2009 FA Youth Cup winner.

Turkey hopes that their roster of young players will have enough fire to push this team towards a solid run through this tournament. They finished as the best third-placed team of the nine groups and ended Group A four points behind the Czech team and two below Iceland with five wins, three draws and two losses. They are +900 longshots to win Group D.
