Conor McGregor Retirement Odds; Notorious Pulled From UFC 200

Conor McGregor shook up the UFC by tweeting that he was retiring young. Have we seen the last of The Notorious One in MMA?

Conor McGregor says he’s retiring young and the UFC says he isn’t fighting at UFC 200, so where do we go from here? Is this merely another case of the UFC butting heads with a superstar fighter or have we seen the last of McGregor?

At this point it’s hard to say. If McGregor doesn’t want to fight anymore he could easily hang them up and make a living off appearances and endorsements, but the root of his rift with the UFC seems to be that he wouldn’t attend promotional events in Las Vegas because he was training in Iceland.

You wouldn’t think a fighter so devoted to his craft would call it quits ahead of what was shaping up to be the biggest fight of his life. In turn, you wouldn’t think the UFC would destroy a relationship with its biggest star before what might have been the biggest event in UFC history.

But, here we are, now in the situation where Conor McGregor retirement odds are relevant, even as crazy as they might sound.

After McGregor tweeted that he was retiring early, UFC president Dana White immediately made the rounds with the media to tell his side of the story – that McGregor was pulled from the UFC 200 card because he wouldn’t agree to promote the card in Las Vegas.

UFC 200 Odds

UFC 200 odds had Conor McGregor vs. Nate Diaz as a Pick ‘em at -115 before the main event was pulled. Now, White says the UFC will announce at least two more fights for that card, but losing McGregor will be a huge blow to the UFC’s bottom line.

The biggest issue here is the ongoing power struggle between UFC stars like Conor McGregor and the Ultimate Fighting Championship. Is this the final straw before UFC fighters band together and form a fighter’s union? Will the UFC take a huge hit with the loss of McGregor and negate all of the gains it has made in the last three years, or will fight fans continue to flock to octagon events?

Right now, it’s still all very much up in the air. Maybe McGregor and White quit slinging dirt in the sandbox, kiss and make up to save the UFC 200 main event.

For the sake of fight fans everywhere, let’s hope so.
